HPD nabs Mississippi capital murder suspect

Special to the Enquirer

What started as a response to a suspicious vehicle ultimately ended in the arrest of a capital murder suspect.

At approximately 9:15 a.m. May 14, officers with the Hartselle Police Department were dispatched to the area of Kroger in reference to an occupied suspicious vehicle.

Officers were advised the vehicle, bearing a Mississippi plate, was reported stolen from a robbery/homicide victim in Mississippi.

Officers located the vehicle, but before they could make contact, the driver sped off and led officers on a short chase. The vehicle stopped before leaving city limits.

The driver was taken into custody and identified as 38-year-old Millian Catrice Tate of Jackson, Miss. Tate had three small children, ages 11, 8 and 5 with her.

Officers reportedly observed blood on Tate and also inside the vehicle. Officers also reported observing a semi-automatic pistol suspected to be the weapon used during the crime.

The vehicle was towed and secured to be later processed for evidence.

Tate has been charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and several traffic violations. Tate is awaiting extradition for capital murder charges from Jackson Police Department in Mississippi.
