A Birmingham man is under arrest after allegedly trying to cash a counterfeit check in Hartselle. 

Dec. 28, 2020, Investigator Tania Burgess arrested Early Maurice Hawthorne, 33, of Birmingham, for criminal possession of a forged instrument, third degree. 

Officers were dispatched to Bank Independent in reference to a male subject attempting to cash a counterfeit check totaling $3,559. Officers arrived and identified Hawthorne as the suspect.  

Hawthorne was transported to the police department for questioning, where he was subsequently arrested. 

Bond was set at $1,000.
