Hartselle girls grind out win over Florence

FLORENCE – After trailing the entire game through three quarters, the Hartselle varsity girls gutted out a 54-50 win at Florence on Friday night. The Lady Tigers outscored the Falcons 22-17 in the final period after scoring just 32 points through the first three.

Masyn Marchbanks controls the Hartselle offense in Friday night’s win over Florence.

Moriah Taylor took over the game late, tossing in a trio of the three pointers in the second half and scoring 11 of her team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter. Lillyanna Cartee picked up 16 points in the win and Anna Mathis tallied 12.

“I thought it was a game where we just found a way to win,” said head coach Gary Orr. “We got some defensive stops at some crucial times when we needed them and then we made some big shots. Hopefully we can continue to get better defensively as we look ahead to next week.”

The Lady Tigers open the Class 6A Area 15 Tournament 5 p.m., Tuesday in Hartselle. They will take on Decatur in this first round.
