There was a time when I did not know how to cook. I did not take an interest in cooking. Whenever I was living at home with my parents, my mother always told me and my older sister that she could cook faster than she could tell us how to do it. Therefore I did not really learn how to cook until after I got married and it was very limited. Whenever I did cook, I would cook foods that would not blend, such as two green vegetables together. I found out what good foods blend, such as potato salad, green beans and ham. I found out not to cook potatoes and a cheese dish together. If you cook pumpkin, you do not serve bread with them because pumpkin takes the place of bread. Whenever I finally did learn to cook, I would enter all of the cooking contests. I won in salads, breads and casseroles, such as a carrot bake. I have won over one hundred ribbons at the Morgan and Cullman County Fairs. I won first place in making orange and lemon vinegar. I grow several herbs in flower pots, such as chives and Rosemary. At this time, I am making Rosemary vinegar and orange vinegar.

The Young at Heart of First Baptist Falkville enjoyed an entertaining morning and a delicious lunch at O’Bryan’s in Hartselle recently. Enjoying the dance team of Ellis Womack and Keyley Jackson were Joe and Fran Edmondson, C.A. and Lola Blevins, Dean Nelson, June Walling, Geraldine Rowe, Alfred and Linda Bryan, Bruce and Georgia Treece, Dwight and Linda Bryan, Bro. Steven Cannon and John and Martha Nelson and their granddaughter, Ashley.

There will be a revival at First Baptist Church Falkville from Sept. 10 to Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. each night. The guest speaker is Matthew Cooke of Knoxville, Tenn. and the music director is Darrin Lightfoot.

Bob and Patricia Ramey were busy this spring attending the graduation events of Sarah Grace Ramey from Spanish Fort High School and Seth Ramey from the University of South Alabama. Seth and Sarah are the children of Blake and Kim Ramey. They both started their basketball training in the Hartselle youth programs. Bob and Patricia, avid basketball fans, are excited to continue enjoying the sport while Sarah attends the University of South Alabama and Seth as a Graduate Assistant Coach with the men’s basketball at Spring Hill College in Mobile. A native of Hartselle, Seth joined the Badgers in Aug. 2017. He graduated from Spanish Fort High School in 2013 where he was a three-year letterman in basketball. He attended Faulkner State Community College as a men’s basketball student manager for two years and was a part of the 2015 Alabama Community College State Championship and 2015 Southern Divisions Championship teams with a trip to the National JUCO Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. Seth earned his Associates of Science in General Studies in 2015 and transferred to the University of South Alabama where he was a student manager for two years under head coach Matthew Graves. He graduated in 2017 from USA with a Bachelors of Science in Sports Management.
