Priceville’s speed signs increase safety, awareness

At a previous Priceville council meeting, members were introduced to the possibility of joining forces with the Radar Sign company which provides signage to communities/departments to help with speeding.

Councilmember Joe Lubisco said he met a representative of Radar Sign at a recent expo in Birmingham.

“The main reason I thought it would be good for Priceville is because I’m big on the community and the safety of the community,” Lubisco said. “Sometimes we’re so busy just driving and not paying attention to what is going on, we don’t realize that we are speeding, especially around areas that involve kids and their families.”

Priceville purchased two digital speed signs from the company, totalling $5900 for two machines and the brackets they stand on.

“We plan on moving them around the area; they’re currently in front of Priceville Elementary School,” Lubisco said. “Being able to move them around is more so for the police officers to see where we have speed issues. Please don’t think it’s for citations to be handed out, we’re just trying to increase safety in our community.”

The signs are low maintenance and run off of two lithium batteries that can be charged and run continuously for 14 days. Members of the community have already given the Priceville council a positive response to the signs being used.

“We have had a lot of responses from parents who are happy to see something like this go on and it also helps the community with the amount of vehicles that are going down our roads,” Lubisco said. “This helps people pay more attention. We have seen a difference in the cars slowing down because they see the sign while coming down the road and the brake lights will come on.
