Hartselle High School’s Lady Tigers finished second in the Eddie Preuitt Ford Volleyball Tournament after losing to Madison Academy’s Lady Mustangs  25-18, 23-25 and 15-7 Saturday.

The Lady Tigers reached the championship match by defeating Brewer 25-17,17-25 and 15-12 and Arab 25-19, 19-25 and 15-8. In earlier pool play action, they defeated East Limestone 25-8, 25-13 and 25-28, Cullman 25-18, 25-18 and Albertville 25-20, 25-20.

Hartselle’s overall record improved to 18-12 with five tournament wins.

Hartselle’s top scorers in the tournament, based on all matches, are listed as follows: Megan Zuck had 30 kills, 37 digs, six blocks, three aces and two assists, Kayla Key had 40 kills, 15 blocks, two digs and an assist,

Bailey Powell scored 37 kills, 42 digs, four blocks and six aces, Claire Forsythe had 20 kills, nine blocks, three digs and an assist, Madelyn Cheatham had 15 kills, 10 digs, 15 blocks and seven aces; Katy Beth Bole had 12 kills, 20 blocks, 11 digs four aces and two assists, Gabrielle Bili had 79 assists, 25 digs, three aces and two kills, Jordan Barbrey had 30 digs, 53 assists, four aces and two kills, Jordan Finn had a kill, two blocks and a dig, Cassie Beth Powell had three digs and an assist, and Catherine Bodley had a pair of digs.

In tournament bracket play, Brewer defeated Danville 25-20, 12-25 and 15-10, Cookeville, Tenn. defeated Cullman 25-18, 25-15, Arab defeated Pinson Valley 25-7, 25-11, Hartselle defeated Brewer 25-17,17-15 and 15-12, Arab defeated Cookeville 25-22, 25-22, and Hartselle defeated Arab 25-19, 19-15 and 15-8, Madison Academy defeated Austin 26-24, 25-6, Albertville defeated Austin 25-20, 25-14, UMS-Wright defeated Randolph, Pelham defeated East Limestone 25-13, 25-14 and Madison Academy defeated Pelham 25-12, 25-13.

Lady Tigers stay unbeaten in area

Hartselle High’s volleyball team remained unbeaten in area competition after picking up a win against Cullman on the road Thursday afternoon.

The score was 25-21, 25-13 and 27-17.

Hartselle scorers for Hartselle were Megan Zuck with nine kills, four aces, three blocks and five digs, Bailey Powell with six kills, five digs, two blocks, an ace and an assist, Gabrielle Bili with nine assists and three digs, Jordan Barbrey with 13 assists, two kills and an ace, Madelyn Cheatham with four kills, four bloc and an ace, Katy Beth Bole with two kills, five digs, five blocks, an ace and an assist, Kayla Key with two kills and four blocks, Hannah Warren with eight digs, and Claire Forsythe with a kill and a block.

Hartselle improves with tri-match wins

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers improved their record to 12-11 and 2-0 with back-to-back wins at a tri-match in Guntersville on Sept. 16.

The Lady Tigers prevailed against Guntersville 26-24, 25-9 and defeated host Guntersville 24-26, 25-14 and 15-13.

Hartselle scorers against Boaz were Megan Zuck with eight kills, a block and a dig, Bailey Powell with six kills, six digs, a block and an ace, Kayla Key with five kills, four blocks and a dig, Gabrielle Bili with 10 assists, two aces and two digs, Madelyn Cheatham with four kills, two digs, an ace and an assist, Kath Beth Bole with two kills, five blocks and three digs, Jordan Barbrey with five assists, six digs and an ace, and Hannah Warren with five digs and three assists.

In the Guntersville win, Zuck scored 19 kills and nine digs, B. Powell had six kills, 16 digs and two blocks, Bili had 16 assists, a dig and a kill, Key had 11 digs, three blocks and a kill, Barbrey had 13 assists, seven digs ands tow aces, Claire Forsythe had four kills and two digs, Cheatham had two kills, two digs and a block, Bole had a kill, four digs, five blocks and an assist, Warren had nine digs and Catherine Bodley had a kill and a dig.
