14-year-old charged with stabbing

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after he was accused of stabbing his stepmother at their home on Kyle Road early Wednesday morning.

Lt. Justin Barley said he could not release the name of the suspect, as he is being charged as a juvenile.

Megan Pitts, 22, of 817 Kyle Road was transported to Huntsville Hospital with multiple stab wounds. Barley did not immediately know her condition, but he said she was admitted to the hospital.

The incident occurred Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. Barley said a small kitchen knife was used during the incident, but he didn’t know what led to the stabbing.

“We are still investigating that at this time,” Barley said. “We will know more after we are able to talk with the victim once she is released from the hospital.”

Barley said the victim walked to a neighbor’s house to call the police.

The suspect was placed in a juvenile detention facility following a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
