Wascavage, Cain lead Hartselle past Athens

ATHENS – Taylor Wascavage hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Hope Cain pitched a shutout in Hartselle’s 1-0 win at Athens Thursday.

The Lady Tigers didn’t have a base runner through the first three and two-thirds innings.

However, Wascavage drove the two-out, 2-1 pitch over the centerfield pitch for Hartselle’s only run of the game in the fourth inning.

Athens had its best opportunity score in the sixth inning after two singles gave the Lady Eagles runners at first and second bases with one out.

However, Ashley Boggs turned an unassisted double play to end the threat.

Cain did the rest, getting two of her five strikeouts in the final inning. She scattered five hits in the win. She also had a double at the plate.

Sydney Crow and Jada Hayes each had singles for Hartselle.
