HHS girls win state

Hartselle High School won its third consecutive state championship in girls golf this week at the Class 1A-5A girls golf tournament at Magnolia Grove in Mobile.

The girls shot a combined score of 479 or 47 over par to win the championship. That was 23 shots better than second place Alexandria. Hartselle’s lead was just five strokes heading into the second day of competition.

The girls were consistent both days and shot 240 and 239 respectively.

The girls were led by Heather Nail, whose 8 over par was good enough to tie for first place in the individual standings. She overcame an 80 on Day 1 and shot even par 72 on the second day.

She was able to catch Bayside Academy’s Caroline Beebe, who shot 76 both days. Nail’s round of 72 was the best round of the tournament.

Kaylon King finished tied for eighth overall with 18 over par (162). Arin Eddy had a score of 165 to finish in 12th place. Mary Roberts shot 180 to finish in 17th place.
