Lady Tigers win four at Bob Jones Tournament

The Hartselle Lady Tigers traveled to Madison to play in the Kent Chambers Classic this past weekend.

The Lady Tigers defeated Scott Co. (Ky.), Giles Co. (Tenn.), Webster Co. (Ky.) and Boyd Buchanan (Tenn.) while falling to Huntsville and Silverdale Baptist (Tenn.). The wins over Giles Co. (Tenn.), Webster Co. (Ky.) and Boyd Buchanan (Tenn.) came in bracket play. The Lady Tigers were scheduled to play Huntsville in the tournament semifinals as of press time.

Hartselle 9, Boyd Buchanan (Tenn.) 3
The Lady Tigers erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit to win 9-3 over Boyd Buchanan (Tenn.) Katie Gillott led Hartselle with two hits, four RBIs and a stolen base, while Ryley Cate Wolf had two hits, including a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Katie Norgard finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Kaeyln Jones added two hits, including a double, scored two runs and had a stolen base. Blayne Godfrey earned the win after allowing three runs on four hits while striking out eight in six innings.

Hartselle 15, Webster Co. (Ky.) 1
Hartselle scored five in the first inning and cruised to a 15-1 win over Webster Co. (Ky.) in the second game of bracket play. Katie Norgard led the Lady Tigers with four hits, including two home runs and a double, five RBIs and four runs scored. Kaelyn Jones finished with a home run and a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs. KJ Prater added two doubles and two RBIs. AB McCormick had a hit and two RBIs. Wolf added a home run and an RBI. Blayne Godfrey earned the win after pitching three scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out seven.

Hartselle 8, Girls Co. (Tenn.) 1
The Lady Tigers opened bracket play with an 8-1 win over Giles Co. (Tenn.) Jones finished 2-of-3 with a triple and a home run to lead the Hartselle offense. She scored three runs and had two RBIs. Gillott added a hit and two RBIs, while KJ Prater had two hits and an RBI. Wolf had a hit and an RBI and Chloe Gray added an RBI. Kenlee Smothers picked up the win after pitching a complete game. She allowed one unearned run on three hits while striking out seven.

Silverdale Baptist (TN) 2, Hartselle 1
Hartselle fell 2-1 to Silverdale Baptist (Tenn.) in a pitchers dual. Blayne Godfrey took the loss after allowing two unearned runs on two hits while striking out eight. Silverdale’s Ell Cunningham struck out 15 Lady Tigers in picking up the win. Brityan Godfrey had two of Hartselle’s four hits and the Lady Tigers only RBI. Jones and Gillott also had hits for Hartselle.

Hartselle 4, Scott Co. (KY) 0
The Lady Tigers defeated Scott Co. (Ky.) 4-0 in pool play this past Friday. Blayne Godfrey led Hartselle with two hits and two RBIs. Jones added two hits with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base, while Wolf had a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Smothers earned the win with a complete game shutout. She struck out seven while allowing only two hits.

Huntsville 11, Hartselle 6
Huntsville jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and held off a Hartselle rally to win 11-6. Brityan Godfrey led the Lady Tigers with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Norgard had a double and an RBI, while Jones added two hits and an RBI. Blayne Godfrey took the loss after allowing nine runs on nine hits while striking out four.
