Hartselle Auburn Club hosts 2023 freshman sendoff

The Hartselle Auburn Club held a freshman sendoff event June 4 at the Hartselle Tabernacle dining hall for area freshmen attending Auburn University this fall. Club president Lee Y. Greene, Jr. welcomed 15 freshmen and their families with nearly 50 people attending. They were from high schools in Morgan and Limestone counties. Muriel Frazier and his granddaughters provided hot dogs and hamburgers for the crowd and Chris and Dee Warnick provided baked beans, potato salad and orange and blue pretzels.   

Each student spoke about what major they are interested in, and why they chose Auburn University.  

Auburn alum and local attorney John Eric Burnum spoke about hard work and the Auburn experience. He explained the four years go by quickly and told the students to enjoy Auburn campus life while they can.  

Auburn alum and NASA engineer James Burnum spoke about STEM careers at NASA and his work on the Artemis rocket system designed to begin manned occupation of the Moon and later, Mars.  

Alum Jonathan Moral spoke about campus life on the Plains as his daughter Livvie, recently graduated in December.  

The students received gift bags and a copy of Auburn Creed by Dr. George Petrie. 

As of Fall 2022 Auburn’s enrollment is: 

Current enrollment at Auburn University is 17,050 students, with 335 students hailing from both Morgan and Limestone counties and 340 coming from Lawrence County.
