Hartelle tennis closes out season at state tournament

The Hartselle boys and girls tennis teams closed out their seasons with a school-record finish at the state tournament in Mobile. Both teams finished the season seventh in 6A.

The girls’ team had two players advance to day two of the tournament. Katie Wilbanks, at No. 3, advanced to the bracket finals before falling. Avie Broom, at No. 6, advanced to the bracket semifinals. The rest of the team includes Caroline Sparks, Miller McLeod, Eleanor Vest and Lanie Shaw.

Coach Chris Pressnell said he is proud of how his teams competed. “For both teams to finish seventh is a great accomplishment,” he said. “But, what I love about this group is that they are not satisfied with that result. They want to accomplish more and they believe that they can be better. I have full confidence that they can. With good results comes bigger expectations.”

The Hartselle boys’ team was represented by Ben Carnes on day two. Carnes, at No. 4, made it to the bracket finals before falling. The rest of the team consists of Reid Collins, Landon Robinson, Marc Cera, Cade Simmons and Zeke Priola.

“Special thanks to the school administration who are so wonderful to work under, the coaches Lindsey Crumpton, Amy Wright and Michael Wilbanks who are such a benefit to our program,” Pressnell added.
