The Hartselle City Council approved a resolution at its meeting April 25 awarding a contract to Cypress Contracting for handicap accessible sidewalks in downtown Hartselle.  

The funding for the project comes from a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAPSU) Grant from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to rehabilitate and construct new handicapped accessible sidewalks along Sparkman, Sycamore and Chestnut streets.  

The awarded contract for the project is in the amount of $749,636.  

Council members also approved a resolution for the expenditure of funds to repair the splash pad at Sparkman Civic Center. Struthers Recreation will repair the Vak Pak system with a new pump, valves, fittings and electrical parts for a total of $16,906.40.  

In other business, the council also:  

-approved a resolution updating the city’s compensation pay policy, increasing the promotional pay increases for city employees from 5 percent to 10 percent 

-did not make an appointment to the CBD Design Review Board. The council voted to extend the application period by three days. Interviews were held for two open positions April 11. 

The next meeting of the Hartselle City Council will be held May 9 at City Hall.
