Tigers make run to Morgan soccer finals

The Hartselle Tigers soccer team made an impressive run to the Morgan County Tournament finals this past week at the Jack Allen Recreational Complex in Decatur. 

 The Tigers (12-3-1) came up short in the finals with a 3-1 loss to Austin, who has now won three straight Morgan County tournament finals. 

 Owen Bennich scored his 25th goal of the season for Hartselle with 19:57 left in the second half to cut the Black Bear’s lead to 3-1. The Tigers had several late opportunities to cut the Austin lead but couldn’t convert in the loss. 

Hartselle boys 1, Decatur 0 

Hunter Lawrence netted the game-winning goal late in the second half of the Morgan County Tournament semifinal to defeat Decatur 1-0 and advance to the finals. Lawrence’s score came off an assist from Alex Hatfield. 

 The shutout was Hartselle’s seventh of the season. 

 Hartselle 4, West Morgan 0 

The Tigers raced past West Morgan 4-0 to secure a spot in the County semifinals. Bennich netted three goals for his second hat trick of the tournament. Luke Minnon added a goal and an assist, while Eli Moore and Ethan Medendorp had assists. 

 Hartselle 10, Danville 1 

Hartselle opened the Morgan County Tournament with a dominating performance by defeating Danville 10-1. 

Bennich led the Tigers with four goals and an assist, while Slate Gargus had two goals and an assist. Luke Vinson, Luke Minnon, Roberto Ramirez, and Justin Mintzer each added a goal. Hatfield and Jack Adams each had an assist. 

Girls soccer 

The Lady Tigers fell short of their goal of reaching the Morgan County Tournament finals with a 1-0 loss to Decatur in the semifinals.  

Decatur scored the game-winner in the first half and held off several Lady Tiger scoring chances in the second half. 

Hartselle 8, West Morgan 2 

Kylie French led Hartselle (9-2) to an 8-2 win over West Morgan. French scored four goals, while Addison Button added two goals. Katelyn Dolbeer and Cara Beth Nelson each had a goal. 

Brandy Hernandez scored both West Morgan goals, with Madison Parker assisting on each goal. 

Hartselle opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over Danville.
