Glenda Ann Goodwin Greene departed this life on Monday, February 27, 2023 peacefully at her home. A memorial visitation was held Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home. She laid in interred at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Carlowville, Ala. in Dallas County. She leaves behind her husband of 55 years, Lee Y. Greene, Sr., a son, Lee Y. Greene, Jr. (Lisa Daniel) and two grandsons, Wilson Watkins Greene and Matthew Price Greene, Jr. and a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Watkins. She is preceded in death by her parents Julius C. and Estelle Newberry Goodwin of Selma, her sister Julie Goodwin, and a son, Matthew Price Greene, Sr. Glenda was born April 27, 1945 in Selma. She graduated from A.G. Parrish High School, Samford University and the University of Alabama with a Master’s degree in history. She was a member of the Samford Delta Zeta sorority and remained friends with her sorority sisters. Glenda was a charter member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Hartselle. Glenda was a long-time member of the Seekers prayer group. She was an avid Auburn fan and loved Auburn sports after she met her husband. She “forcefully instructed” Joe Namath to move his Corvette out of her parking place, while in grad school In Tuscaloosa, and that was her first step to becoming an Auburn fan. Glenda volunteered on several community boards and with civic clubs. She was a member and chair of the Hartselle Planning Commission from July 1991 to October 2001. She was a member of the Hartselle Rotary Club becoming a Paul Harris fellow. Glenda owned Hartselle Office Supply for several years and enjoyed retirement afterward. She will be missed by her many friends through the years. Her Irish wit and humor will be missed. Glenda loved her family, friends and cats. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to Hospice of the Valley, who took care of her in her final days, and the Morgan County Animal Shelter, because she loved cats.

Ellen Irene Criner Kelly

A graveside funeral service an interment for Ellen Irene Criner Kelly, 97, was held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Goree officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Kelly died Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Falkville Health Care Center. She was born June 24, 1925, in Morgan County, to William Thomas Mooneyham and Rosa Lee Anna Plemons Mooneyham. She was employed by the Why Not Cafe, as a hostess, prior to her retirement. Preceded her in death were her first husband, Joseph C. Criner, second husband, Raymond Kelly, her parents; brothers, Orel Oscar Mooneyham, William T. Mooneyham, Olan Mooneyham and Charles L. Mooneyham and sister, Margaret Mooneyham Goree. Survivors include stepson, Joseph Coleman Criner; step-grandchildren, Catheen Criner Morris and Perry Criner, all of Maryland; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Jimmy Meares, Sr.

Funeral service for Jimmy Meares, Sr., 78, was held Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Crawford officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Meares died on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Hanceville Nursing Home. He was born April 22, 1944, in Morgan County, to Jody Meares and Estelle Chamblis Meares. He was employed by Decatur Utilities as an operator, prior to his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and
light piano music. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Lom, Louie, Gary and
Wayne Meares; sisters, Martha Miller, Linda Peterson and Edith Terry and a son-in-law, Fred Mullins. Survivors include son, Jimmy Avery Meares, Jr. (Erica); daughter, Connie Renea Mullins; son, Brian Dewayne Meares (Brenda); sisters, Lellyan Cole, Connie Burgant (Wendell), Brenda Blankenship (Billy Tom) and Vicky Whinsenant (Keith); twelve grandchildren; eighteen great- grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Melissa Holmes Jones

A memorial service for Melissa Holmes Jones ,44, was held Sunday, March 5,
2023 at 5 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Jones died Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Fresenius Kidney Care. She was born July 3, 1978, in Lawrence County, to Franklin Louie Holmes and Joyce Ann McCulloch Holmes. Melissa was a homemaker and stay at home mom. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and sister. She loved spending time with her daughter and family and enjoyed life in general. She enjoyed spending time in Gatlinburg, loved horses and watching deer. Her father preceded her in death. Survivors include husband, Billy Wayne Jones; daughter, Karla Cheyenne Reasonover; stepdaughter, Victoria Jones; mother, Joyce Ann McCulloch Holmes; brother, Joseph Holmes.
