Hartselle boys soccer net two victories

The Hartselle Tigers improved to 7-2-2 with two wins and a draw last week. Joining Hartselle in the win column were both Danville teams.

Hartselle 3, Oxford 2
The Tigers picked up a 3-2 win over Oxford at the ASOF Tournament at Choccolocco Park. Scoring goals for Hartselle were Owen Bennich, Ethan Medendorp and Luke Vinson. Slate Gargus added an assist.

Hartselle 2, Pell City 2
Hartselle and Pell City played to a 2-2 draw on Saturday. Bennich scored both Tiger goals, while Medendorp had an assist.

Hartselle 2, Buckhorn 1
The Tigers opened the week with a 2-1 victory over Buckhorn. Bennich and Luke Minnon scored goals.

Danville 5, JB Pennington 4 (PK)
The Hawks got past JB Pennington 5-4 in penalty kicks. The teams were tied 3-3 after two halves and 4-4 after extra time. Danville outscored the Tigers 3-2 in penalty kicks to get the victory.

Kevin Castillo made 18 saves, including three in penalty kicks, to lead the Hawks to victory. Jim Lacy netted two goals and Alexis Martinez had a goal. Castillo, Martinez and Carlos Soto each converted a penalty attempt in the shootout.

Girls
Danville 6, JB Pennington 1
The 3A No. 3 Hawks improved to 8-1 with a 6-1 area win over JB Pennington.

Layla Sherrill had three goals and an assist to lead Danville, while Aaliyah Douglas and Anna Philpott each added a goal. Maddie Sherrill had two assists.
