Hartselle Lady Tigers defeat Decatur for first time in decade

The Hartselle girls’ team picked up a crucial 2-0 win over Decatur this past Thursday. The win was an area win for the Lady Tigers, giving them a leg up in area play. It was also the first time Hartselle had defeated the Lady Raiders since 2013.

In other girls’ action:
Danville 10, Geraldine 0
Layla Sherrill netted five goals for the Lady Hawks (6-0) in their win over Geraldine. Danville also had two goals from Josie Bailey. Lexie Chenault and Maddie Sherrill each had a goal.

In boys’ action:
Cullman 0, Hartselle 0 – Cullman wins 5-3 on PKs
Hartselle dropped a heartbreaker on the road at Cullman in a 6A Area 14 matchup this past Thursday. The Tigers (5-2-1) were tied with the Bearcats 0-0 after two halves and two overtime periods. Cullman then outscored Hartselle 5-3 in penalty kicks to get the win.

Hartselle 4, Brewer 3
Luke Minnon netted a hat trick by scoring three goals to lead Hartselle (5-1-1) to a win over Brewer.

Owen Bennich had a goal and an assist on the game-winning goal, while Eli Moore and Alex Hatfield each added an assist.

Hartselle 1, Athens 0
The Hartselle Tigers shut out the Athens Golden Eagles 1-0 in a rivalry game. Goalkeeper Nicky Vaughn picked up his second consecutive shutout and third of the season.

Owen Bennich scored the game-winner for the Tigers (4-1-1), who have outscored their opponents 18-5 through six games.
