Are you seeking first the kingdom?

By Todd Barrier

On Super Bowl Sunday, billions of people around the world were tuned to the same event. All eyes were seeing the same thing go down at the same time. Entire schedules were built around the game. Get togethers were planned, menus were fretted over for days before deciding on the final offerings. For one event people were willing to change everything to be part of something universal. Each Sunday, Christians around the world have that same type of opportunity. We may not be seeing the same exact thing at the same exact time, but we get the chance to worship the God who created the universe on the first day of the week.

We can plan our schedules around it, plan menus for get togethers after worship and more importantly we can offer up our sacrifices and our praise that help us grow closer to God. When the big game is over, we move on and forget about it. When our big day comes and the service is over, what happens there can help push us through as we go on in the next week, it stays with us. It seems like it’s easy to plan everything around one big event, but planning everything around a BIG God is so much more worthwhile. In Matthew 6:33, the Bible says to seek first the kingdom of God.

As we look back on the time and effort we put into big “worldly events,” let’s make sure we remember the importance of an event we can plan for each week. Are you seeking Him first?
