Ruby Muriel Adams, 98, of Hartselle, passed away January 29, 2023, completing a life well-lived. Ruby was born on June 9, 1924 to Joseph Edgar Jackson and Leathy Bledsoe Jackson in Robertson County, Tenn. Shortly after her birth, the family settled back in Houston County for the remainder of their lives. After graduating from Erin High School in 1944, Ruby joined her friends and sisters and moved to Detroit, Mich. to work in the factories supporting the war effort. She married the love of her life, Ewing Adams, in 1945 and joined him for a short time while he was on duty with the U.S. Navy in California. After the war ended, they settled in the Detroit area until Ewing’s retirement. They moved back to Houston County, Tenn. in 1980. She was a long-time member of Griffin’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene. After the death of Ewing in 2002, Ruby continued to live on their farm near Erin, Tenn. until moving to Hartselle in 2005 to be closer to her nieces. Ruby is survived by her nephew Rick Adams of Maryville, Tenn.; nieces, Gail Shell (Andy) and Teresa Adams of Hartselle; Carlene Mathis and Sue Beard (Terry) of Houston County, Tenn. and Brenda Patterson (Jerry) of Milton, Fla. Also, many second and third generations of nieces and nephews who loved her and will miss her very much. A graveside service was held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Erin, Tenn. on Monday, February 6, 2023 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please show kindness to someone. Ervin Johnson

Funeral service for Ervin Johnson, 87, was held Friday, February 3, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Greg Begemann and Bro. Harlan Begemann officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was held in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Johnson died Monday, January 30, 2023 at his residence. He was born August 8, 1935, in Morgan County to Pearlie Ervin Johnson, Sr. and Mable Grace Holt Johnson. He was employed by Hargett Construction, as a HVAC contractor, prior to his retirement. Preceding him in death were his parents, Pearlie E. and Mable Grace Johnson; brothers, Charles Ray Johnson and Thomas T. Johnson and his sisters, Thelma Depreast, Vera Drake, Vina Wallace, Letha Higdon, Gracie Lee Griffith, Ottie Lou Self and Margaret Johnson. Survivors include daughters, Theresa Brown and Darlene Simmons (Bryan); grandchildren, Nikki Johnson, Joseph Brandon Brown, Amy Simmons (Jeff) and Ann Simmons; great-grandchildren, Haley, Drake, Brodie, Bristol, Boston, Chesten, Ryland, Aidan, Jefferson and A.J. Pallbearers were family and friends.

 

Glenda F. Glassco

Ms. Glenda F. Glassco, 71, died Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at River City Center. She was born May 8, 1951, in Madison County, to Glenn Leon Glassco and Mildred Louise Sharpe Glassco. She was employed by Boots Restaurant, as a waitress, prior to her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, William Johnson. Survivors include daughter, Becky Corson and
son, Nicky Johnson. No services were scheduled at this time.

 

Eula Frances “Sis” Downs
Somerville
Funeral service for Eula Frances “Sis” Downs, 85, was held Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 11 a.m. at New Center Baptist Church with Bro. Michael Mason officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Ms. Downs died Friday, February 3, 2023 at Falkville Health Care Center. She was born October 16, 1937, in Morgan County, to James D. Kent and Jessie G. Mabry Kent. She was a member of New Center Baptist Church and was a wonderful mother and grandmother, that loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, J.D. Kent, David Kent and Roy Kent. Survivors include sons, Mike Plemons (Connie), of Hartselle and Chris Plemons (Jenny), of Decatur; brothers, Benny Kent (Mary Jo), of Mt. Olive, Ala. and Ray Kent (Donna), of Baileyton, Ala.; long-time partner, Raymond “Sonny” Downs; grandchildren, Eric Plemons and Brittney Plemons. Pallbearers were family and friends. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the Hospice of the Valley.

 

Joan Robinson Cocke
Falkville
A graveside funeral service and interment for Joan Robinson Cocke, 69, was held Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery in Morgan County, Ala. with Bro. Greg Compton officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Cocke died Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born October 23, 1953, in Michigan, to William Forrest Robinson and Katherine Cowan Robinson. She worked at the VFW assisting with Bingo in Falkville and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for many, many years. She loved genealogy and was employed by the Decatur Daily as a paper carrier, prior to her retirement. Preceding her in death were her husband: Bobby Cocke, her parents and a grandson, Dakota Cocke. Survivors include sons, Michael Cocke (Courtney) and Jeff Hemming (Cindy), brother, Billy Robinson; five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to the Huntsville Hospital NICU or to the North Alabama Foster Closet.
