Lady Tigers sweep Cullman to secure regular season area championship

The Hartselle Lady Tigers clinched their second straight regular-season area championship with a 45-34 win over Cullman this past Friday.

The Lady Tigers trailed 9-3 midway through the first quarter before going on a 7-3 run to close the quarter trailing 12-10. Hannah Burks jump-started Hartselle with eight points in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Bearcats 11-6 to take a 21-18 lead into halftime.

Hartselle outscored Cullman 11-9 in the third to extend their lead to 32-27. The Lady Tigers finished the game with a 13-7 run to secure the 11-point victory.

Gracie Hill finished with 14 points to lead Hartselle. Anna Burroughs scored 11, while Hannah Burks added eight.

Ava McSwain finished with 17 to lead Cullman (12-11).

Jasper 45, Hartselle 30
The Lady Tigers saw their 10-game winning streak end with a 45-30 loss on the road at 5A no. 3 Jasper.

The Lady Vikings led 15-6 following the first quarter and 27-8 at halftime. The Lady Tigers outscored Jasper 22-18 in the second half.

Mary Frances Itsede finished with her fourth double-double, 14 points and 10 rebounds. Hill scored five points, while Burroughs had four.

Missy Odom finished with 16 to lead Jasper, while Mia Hollingsworth scored 14.
