Hartselle wrestling advances to the 6A State Duels semifinals

The ninth-ranked Hartselle Tigers wrestling team advanced to the state duels semifinals with a dominating performance in Athens last week.

The Tigers picked up a 53-27 win over Mae Jemison to open the first round of the state tournament and then dominated Fort Payne 60-18 in the quarterfinals.

Hartselle advances to the semifinals, where they will face second-ranked Mortimer Jordan.

In other action, the team finished sixth at the Grissom scramble on Saturday. The team had five wrestlers who finished fourth or better in the respective weight classes.

Lincoln Bryant led the way with a first-place finish at 132 lbs. Payton Roberts finished second at 152 lbs and Gage Ownby third at 160 lbs. Jackson Schutt (113 lbs) and Jameson Falciani (182 lbs) had fourth-place finishes.

Every wrestler picked up at least one victory during the tournament.
