‘When art comes to town’: Recent murals celebrated during Brunch & Learn session

Special to the Enquirer

RAW Images owner and photographer Rachel Howard recently hosted a Brunch & Learn session at her studio for ““When art comes to town,” a webinar telling the story of Lake City, South Carolina, a small, rural town that experienced a remarkable transformation due to the presence of the arts.

Howard, herself, has played a role in bringing art to her own town of Hartselle, with the hosting of Hartselle’s first community-painted mural. Painters paid $5 to paint a brick the color of their choice during Hartselle’s 2022 Depot Days festival in September. The “Sweet Home Hartselle” mural is now complete and is located on the side of the RAW Images studio building, located at 113 Sparkman St.

Additional artwork that has recently come to town is the mural at The Something Blue Shoppe, located at 224 Main St. W. in Hartselle. The mural, paid for in part by a grant from Decatur-Morgan County Tourism, was painted by Mammoth Murals in Birmingham and will be featured on the MoCo Mural Trail.
