Hartselle seniors enjoy Christmas party, auction

It was a very Merry Christmas indeed at Hartselle’s senior center when the group held it’s Christmas party.

Attendees wore festive outfits, even pairing them with elf ears and reindeer antlers.

As a part of the fun, the group was able to spend their civic center bucks, a reward idea that is the brainchild of Staci Wells.

Wells said civic center bucks were given as prizes for bingo and similar games. Mike Hill of M&M Auctions in Falkville auctioned off prizes donated by dozens of area businesses, some worth hundreds of dollars.

“Morgan County has been good to us,” Wells said, adding Tool Depot in Decatur donated a tool set worth $500.

Senior center manager Steve Griffin said he enjoys seeing the seniors get involved in the auction and have a good time at the Christmas party. They will be open this week until Thursday but then closed for 11 days until Jan. 3, something Griffin said is hard on those who rely on the senior center for socialization.

“We’re a family here,” Griffin said. “We’re the only family that some of these folks have.”

More than 30 local retailers and restaurants donated prizes and gift certificates to the senior center, they include: BeFrizz, Jamie’s County Cuts, AutoZone, Tool Depot, Farmer’s Home Furniture, Pigskin BBQ, Sherry’s Sparkle, Tractor Supply, Christine Wise-Thirty-one, City Diesel, Don Alejo Mexican Restaurant, Eddie Preuitt Ford, Goldmine Jewelry, Fuqua’s Southern Soul Food, Pro Sports, Diamond Pro, Hartselle Enquirer, Miller Farms, Corum’s, Bargains USA, Advance Auto Parts, It’s Your Day at Smith’s Florist, Pizza Ed, Apple Lane Farms, Kelly’s Jewelry, Avon by Melina Pylant, Reeves Peach Farm, Cracker Barrell, Publix, Pampered Chef by Tammy Johnson, Eating in the Attic, Warehouse Coffee, Beth’s Barber Shop, Southern Rust, Zoey’s Downtown, Sweet Sensations, Harbor Freight, Trading Post, Town & Country Restaurant and Gilchrist Pharmacy.
