Gov. Ivey awards $1.4 million to assist child abuse victims in north Alabama

MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $1.4 million to help child abuse victims in 10 north Alabama counties have access to professional assistance through five nonprofit organizations.

The Morgan County Child Advocacy Center Inc. received $219,116 of the grant funds.

The grants will enable the organizations to provide services including mental health assistance, medical services referrals, advocacy and assisting in filing victims’ compensation claims.

“Child abuse victims and their families face painful obstacles because of the reality of their circumstances,” Ivey said. “I commend the staff and volunteers at these organizations as they continue providing care for these victims and assisting with needed services.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation and water resources management.

“ADECA stands with Gov. Ivey as she continues working to ensure that the most vulnerable among us, such as child victims, have the resources they need in a timely manner,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
