Are you wearing a spiritual mask?

By Todd Barrier

A lot of masks have been worn the last few days. Halloween always brings out the best disguises. Some of the masks are scary, some are funny and some are just out of this world creative. It’s a fun few days to pretend to be something or someone else. It reminds me of something Jesus was saying to the Pharisees. As He is scolding them for their hypocrisy Jesus says this… [Mat. 23:25 NKJV] 25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.”

Many of the Pharisees were all about what people “saw” but on the inside they were nothing like they were pretending to be. Sometimes we are like this. We have this image we want to project but inside we are far from Christ-like. It’s like a spiritual mask we wear, we are pretending to be something or someone we are not. So, we must look into the mirror of our souls and make sure we aren’t wearing a spiritual mask. We must match what’s on the outside with what’s on the inside. Are you wearing a spiritual mask?
