Somerville nonprofit to hold awards dinner Saturday

By Staff Reports

Kidz Table, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Somerville, will host the Harriet Tubman Awards Saturday at the Magnolia Room in Decatur.

Morgan County Sheriff Ron Puckett will be the recipient of this year’s Hariet Tubman Hero Award.

Lynette Burton Brown founded Kidz Table in 2005 with a mission to provide hunger relief in the community.

Burton Brown said Puckett was instrumental in getting the doors of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church reopened after the 100-year-old Somerville church was vandalized in October 2021.

“He told us ‘We will have you guys back in that church on Sunday and he did. He was a man of his word. He was down on his knees, working and scrubbing.’”

Burton Brown said with the annual awards ceremony, the nonprofit organization seeks to “honor individuals who are doing great things in the community.”

The event will be held from 3-6 p.m. and feature guest appearances by Dr. Ted Sutton and celebrity Judge Joe Brown, according to Burton Brown.

Tickets cost $35 at the door. The Magnolia Room is located at 216 Moulton St. in Decatur.
