Hometown heroes

Children came out in droves June 7 to meet Hartselle’s hometown heroes at Sparkman Park – and get up close and personal with some heavy-duty equipment along the way.

The event was held by Hartselle Parks and Recreation and featured fire engines, ambulances, construction equipment, police vehicles and even a horse or two from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Children were able to tour the vehicles and learn more about what it takes to be a hometown hero.

Pictured above are Scout Drinkard, left, 18 months, and Oaklen Hemming, 2. The cousins had a blast seeing a Hartselle fire engine during the Hometown Heroes event. Their grandfather, Lee Hemming, retired from the Hartselle Fire Department after 33 years of service.
