School board approves field trip for theater students

At its regular meeting May 26, school board members approved an out-of-state field trip for Hartselle High School theater students to travel to Indiana University June 20-24. Students will compete in the International Thespian Society National Festival. 

Ten additional out-of-district students were also approved for the upcoming school year. Other action items approved at the meeting were the election of board officers and the establishment of a new school board committee for Crestline Elementary School.  

The following personnel items, including employment, resignations and retirements were approved at the meeting:  

Leave requests  

  1. Kevin Byrd, teacher at Hartselle Intermediate School, for FMLA leave from April 25-May 27.  
  1. Mallori Pendley, History Teacher at Hartselle High School, for FMLA leave from approximately Aug. 3-31.  
  1. Dietra Pressley, custodian at Hartselle Intermediate School, for FMLA leave, from June 2-Aug. 26.

Logan Dotson and Christopher Gatlin (Andrew) to be paid for additional custodial summer help at Hartselle Junior High School. 

Chad Gladden to be paid a summer supplement, pending student enrollment, for teaching summer school Driver’s Ed.  

Meredith Glasscock, Agriscience Teacher at Hartselle High School, to be paid for teaching 7 periods, effective April 20, 2022. 

Anna Hall to be paid a summer supplement, pending student enrollment, for teaching summer school Earth and Space.  

Jamie Haynes to be paid a summer supplement in the position of school counselor at Hartselle High School.

Summer 2022 Professional Development Stipends for Hartselle City Schools teachers who participate in any of the following professional development opportunities listed below, beyond the two required flex days.  Teachers who participate and submit the Summer 2022 Stipend Request Form to their principal will be paid. These stipends will be paid with ESSER II – State Reserve funds: 

  1. Elementary Reading/ Language Arts (LETRS, Neuhaus, Sound Wall, Dyslexia, AlaKids, other ARI) 
  1. Elementary Math (AMSTI, OGAP) 
  1. Secondary Language Arts (A+ College Ready content-area reading ELA, Social Studies, Science)  
  1. Secondary Math (A+ College Ready Math)  

Summer 2022 Professional Development Stipends for Hartselle City Schools teachers who participate in the following professional development opportunities listed below, beyond the two required flex days.  Teachers who participate and submit the Summer 2022 Stipend Request Form to their principal will be paid. These stipends will be paid with ARP ESSER III Funds.: 

  1. ABA training for SpEd teachers or typical classroom teachers. These stipends will be covered with ARP ESSER III Funds. (science of, strategies, interventions, standards, LETRS, Neuhaus, ARI, textbook, sound wall, dyslexia, AlaKids, EdCamp reading sessions, comprehension, reading assessment understanding)  

Summer 2022 Professional Development Stipends for Hartselle City Schools teachers who participate in the following professional development opportunities listed below, beyond the two required flex days.  Teachers who participate and submit the Summer 2022 Stipend Request Form to their principal will be paid. These stipends will be paid with ESSER II Funds: 

  1. Reading Coaches, and/or Interventionists, and/or Lead Teachers– Requesting Stipend under ESSER II at for disaggregating Spring testing data to ready instructional focuses for SY 21-22.
