Be still and know

By Todd Barrier

The word Selah can be found in many scriptures throughout the Bible. One example is Psalm 62:8 where the Bible says, “Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.”

The word Selah, in the context in which it is used, basically is telling us to pause. Most likely we are instructed to pause and reflect on the truth that has just been given to us. I think this is something we could use in our lives to help keep us in check: to just pause every once in a while, and reflect on the truth of God’s Word. We are told to reflect on how we are contemplating that truth, and if that truth is what is leading our decisions and attitude.

It would also be helpful in our Christian walks to just be able to stop and quickly reflect on how good God is. If we can do this, the stress of life would be less and the connection with God would be stronger. Be still and know that He is God.
