Blue Devils fall to Spring Garden for the third playoffs in row

The Falkville Blue Devils succumbed to come-from-behind wins by Spring Garden to bring their baseball season to an end. This was the third playoffs in a row for the Panthers to oust the Blue Devils.

Game One: Spring Garden 11, Falkville 10
The Panthers scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to break a 10-10 tie and take game one. The Blue Devils led 10-8 heading to the sixth inning but couldn’t plate another run, and the Panthers scored single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Caden Burnett was four-of-six with three RBIs, three stolen bases, and two runs scored to lead Falkville. Dawson Fowler was two-of-five with two hits and two RBIs. Colton Hooper and Camden Reid had two hits, with Hooper having an RBI and Reid scoring a run.

Hooper started the game and gave up eight runs on 13 hits while striking out five in 5.1 innings. Burnett pitched an inning of relief, giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

Andrew Jones took the loss after pitching 1.2 innings of relief, giving up a run and a hit while striking out four.

Game Two: Spring Garden 11, Falkville 10
Falkville came from behind in the top of the sixth to take a 10-5 lead after scoring six runs. The Panthers, however, answered back with a run in the bottom of the sixth and five in the seventh to win game two 11-10.

Burnett once again led the way for the Blue Devils, finishing three-of-four with three doubles, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Hooper was two-of-three with three RBIs.

Jones, Reid, and Kole Fitzgerald also had RBIs for Falkville.

Fowler got the start and went five innings, giving up six runs on six hits while striking out eight. Reid took the loss after giving up five runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of relief.
