Special to the Enquirer

Bill W. Hopkins Jr., director of Fayetteville City Schools and former Morgan County Schools superintendent, has been selected as the annual recipient of the 2022 Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Superintendent Award.

Hopkins is the third superintendent in the nation to be recognized with this award.

“Mr. Hopkins is an extraordinary superintendent and leader who exemplifies the important work of all superintendents to create positive pathways for students in these extraordinary times,” said Dr. Judy Warden Fields, CEO of Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. “He has utilized the BRSE program and process to move schools in two districts, and in two states, to a higher level of performance.

“There is no doubt Mr. Hopkins is the best of the best in educational leadership not only in Tennessee and Alabama but nationally.”

Hopkins was hired as director of Fayetteville City Schools in 2020. Prior to that he spent three decades in the Morgan County Schools system, almost 10 of those years as superintendent.

The award presentation will be at the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence National Conference in Orlando, Fla., Dec. 2. More than 40 states are represented at this national event each year.
