Read Across America Week returns Feb. 28 through March 4

The staff and students at Falkville Elementary School will be celebrating Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ birthday the week Feb. 28 through March 4.  

They have lots of fun things planned to promote reading. The following is a day-to-day list of the activities planned for the celebration.  

  • Feb. 28: Book, “Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.” Wear your favorite hat! 
  • March 1: Book, “If I Ran the Zoo.” Wear animal print or camo!  
  • March 2: Book, “Happy Birthday To You.” Dress as your favorite Seuss character! 
  • March 3: Book, “Oh the Places You Will Go.” Dress for your future career of choice! 
  • March 4: Book, “The Sleep Book.” Wear school-appropriate pajamas! 

Morgan County Sheriff’s Posse Fundraiser 

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Posse members are conducting a fundraiser for their rodeo for those with special needs. They are selling tickets on a Ruger AR-556, serial #859-51729. The cost of the tickets is $5 each or $20 for five tickets.  

Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can contact Harleen Reynolds at 256-260-5335.  

The drawing will be held April 15. Pickup will be at Mike’s Gun and Pawn.  

All proceeds go to the rodeo project for those with special needs. 

Summerford Nursing Home February Activities 

The residents and staff at Summerford Nursing Home have enjoyed several activities during the month of February:  

  • Sundays: Bible study and TV church 
  • Tuesdays: Name That Tune 
  • Wednesdays: Craft-making 
  • Thursdays: Gourmet coffee show 
  • Fridays: Bingo 
  • Saturdays: Movies and popcorn 

They also had special activities Feb. 14 for Valentine’s Day and Remember When activities Feb. 28. 

I want to say hello this week to my friend, Kay Farrer, who is a resident at Summerford Nursing Home. 

Severe Weather Preparedness 

Local cities and towns, incuding Falkville, Eva, Fairview, Cullman, Hartselle and Decatur, will participate in the 2022 Severe Weather Preparedness Tax Holiday Feb. 25-27. This will be an opportunity to purchase certain severe weather preparedness items free of sales tax.
