Hartselle City Schools, HACC plan career event for students, parents

Hartselle City Schools, in conjunction with the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce, will sponsor an event Feb. 3 for students and parents to explore career pathways offered in the school district.

Students in fifth through 12th grades are encouraged to attend the come-and-go event that will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. at Hartselle High School.

“In addition, area business and industry, as well as local colleges, will be on hand to help parents with pathways that lead to lucrative careers and programs that pay for college and to provide information on earning free college credits while in high school,” said Jeff Hyche, HCS career tech director.

“Students will also be able to experience hands-on activities in many of the career pathways,” Hyche added. “HCS begins offering pathway classes as early the sixth grade, so it is critically important that parents are informed and are active participants in the planning process well before students are ready to graduate.”

Presenting sponsor Sonoco and gold sponsors Redstone Federal Credit Union and Cerrowire will provide attendees with pizza and drinks. Parents attending will also be able to register for door prizes, including scholarship awards. Students will be registering for 2022-23 classes, so parents with any questions about any class or program will be able to get answers and direction during this event.

“COVID has caused a huge void in information parents have about careers and programs offered right here in our local area,” Hyche said. “This event is an attempt to help get all parties together and get everyone working together to provide great educational and career training for our young people.”

Door prize awards will be announced after the event Feb 4.
