Feeding Families of Alabama helps the people in this community and in the surrounding area.   

Feeding Families of Alabama – located at Mt. Tabor Non-Denominational Church, 373 Mt. Tabor Road, Hartselle – does not draw imaginary boundaries when it comes to the people it helps. Anyone who is in need of food and can get to their location on Open Pantry Day to pick it up qualifies for help, regardless of their home address. 

For safety and financial reasons, Feeding Families cannot deliver food to anyone. Those in need should only come during open pantry hours.  

Feeding Families of Alabama works on an honor system, trusting everyone to be honest and only take food if they truly need it. They do not require documentation.  

All Feeding Families asks recipients to do is, when they get back on their feet again, and they see someone else in need, pay it forward and try to help them out.  

Feeding Families believes in simply showing love and kindness to the world around them. Beginning in January 2022, all emergency situations will be directed to the organizations Blessing Boxes.  

All assistance being offered depends on whether the organization has food on hand to give out. In can only operate with donations from the community.  

At this time, Feeding Families averages helping about 250-300 people in need per week. This is a huge number of people in need.  

Everyone who works there is an unpaid volunteer. No one draws a paycheck; they do it all from their hearts!

Community News 

Jim and Karen Bryant Walker of DeSoto, Kansas, have been visiting relatives and friends in Morgan and Cullman counties and Sheffield.  

They spent New Year’s Eve with Karen’s sister, Kay Farrer, at Summerford Nursing Home. They also enjoyed visiting with Karen’s 102-year-old aunt, Lorene Bryant, and cousins John Bryant and Pam Holmes in the Massey community. While in Sheffield they enjoyed barbecue with Larry and Nancy Anders, and in Fairhope they enjoyed visiting with Ferrell and Pauline Anders, William Lee and Mike Lyons for a shrimp boil together.  

Jim and Karen will be spending six weeks in Key West, Florida. Following this they will visit with Cliff Dowling, Jim’s cousin, in Marion, Illinois, before returning to their home in Kansas. 

The residents at Summerford Nursing Home enjoyed an Alabama football game party with wonderful goodies provided by Sweet Senations Bakery in Hartselle.  

The residents are currently enjoying craft activities, such as preparing Valentine door decorations and jewelry.  

They are also enjoying their Fantasy Group’s project, which will be decorating the Alabama Rose Parade Float, and rehearsing their High Steppers and Foggy Mountain Breakdown Band songs: “Stars Fell on Alabama” and “I’m Alabama Bound.”  

In the month of February, the flowers in public and resident areas at Summerford Nursing Home will be buttercups.
