Boys Basketball Roundup: Danville and Priceville pick up 15th win

In county basketball action to start off 2022, three Morgan County boys teams continued to improve their records.

PRICEVILLE

Priceville 54, Randolph 21

Priceville improved to 15-3 and 3-1 in area play with a 54-21 win on the road at Randolph. The Bulldogs led 17-5 after the first quarter and 29-9 at halftime.

Jake Langlois led Priceville with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Cole Lindeman finished with 10 points, while Elijah Hopkins added seven points and seven assists.

Priceville 54, West Point 43

The Bulldogs used a fourth-quarter rally to come from behind and pick up the victory with a 54-43 win on the road at West Point. Priceville trailed 15-14 after the first quarter, 29-22 at halftime, and 38-35 heading to the fourth.

Chris Thomas had a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds to lead Priceville. Lindeman finished with 13 points and six steals, while Langlois added 12 points and seven rebounds. Hopkins had six points, nine assists and four steals.

Andrew Lynn and Jay Lamar each finished with 14 points to lead West Point.

Setting a record

The Priceville 80-47 win over Brewer Dec. 16 has made the AHSAA record book for three-pointers made by one team and by both teams combined.

The Bulldogs hit 16 three-pointers – the seventh most by one team in AHSAA history. The AHSAA record is 25 by Plainview in a 119-55 win over North Sand Mountain in 2018.

Sammy Holmes led Priceville with five, Elijah Hopkins added three, while Tyler Case and Cole Lindeman hit two. Four players hit one each.

Brewer hit seven three-pointers as the two teams combined for 23 three-pointers in the game. The total is the eighth-best in AHSAA history.

DANVILLE

Danville 49, West Point 40
Danville (15-4) led from the start in a 49-40 win over West Point at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex Saturday. The Hawks led 10-7 after the first quarter, 26-22 at halftime and 37-32 going into the final quarter.

Kohl Randolph finished with a game-high 17 points and six rebounds to lead Danville. Witten Morgan added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Carter Holladay had eight.

Kanen Trussell led West Point with 12 points, while Lynn scored nine.

Danville 65, East Lawrence 38

Danville improved to 14-4 and 4-0 in area play with a 66-38 win over East Lawrence. The Hawks led 15-11 after the first and 19-15 at halftime. They extended the lead to 37-26 heading into the fourth before outscoring the Eagles 28-12 in the final quarter.

Randolph scored a career-high 32 points to lead Danville. Morgan finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Landon Freeman added nine points.

Jeremiah Crayton led East Lawrence with 12 points, while Peyton Kelly and Isaiah Hubbard added 11 points each.

FALKVILLE

Falkville 71, Winston County 55
Falkville moved to 2-2 in area play with a 71-55 win over Winston County Jan. 4.

The Blue Devils used a strong second-half effort to win after trailing 30-24 at halftime. In the third quarter, they outscored the Yellowjackets 27-15 to take a 51-45 lead before finishing the game 20-10 in the fourth for the 16-point victory.

Dawson Norwood had 19 points and four steals to lead Falkville. Avery Miller finished with 13 points, six rebounds and five blocks, while Joshua Bradford scored 11.

BREWER

Guntersville 80, Brewer 53
Brewer fell to 0-3 in area play following an 80-53 loss to Guntersville. The Patriots trailed 47-20 at halftime.

Tamerion Watkins led the Patriots with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists. Hunter Lawrence added 14 points and three rebounds. Russell Mahan added six points and two assists.

Scottsboro 74, Brewer 50
Brewer fell to visiting 6A Scottsboro 74-50. The Patriots trailed 39-16 at halftime.

Mahan led Brewer with 13 points and three steals. Mac Shadden had nine points and three rebounds, while Watkins added seven points.
