How is your relationship with God?

By Todd Barrier

I recently read a story about two brothers who stayed in trouble at school.

The parents were at their wits end! They had tried everything to calm the boys and nothing had worked. They finally asked the local preacher to talk with them, and he agreed to see them one at a time.

He wanted to see how much the boys knew about God, so when the first brother came in, he sat him down and asked him, “Do you know where God is”? The boy didn’t say a word.

Again, the preacher said “Where is God”? Still no response.

Finally, he was a bit stern, shook his finger and said “Where is God?!” The boy was scared, and he ran home and hid in his closet.

The second brother came in the closet and asked, “What happened”? The boy said “We’ve done it this time. God’s missing, and they think we did it!”

Those boys thought God was nowhere to be found, and it scared them. Sometimes the world can be a scary place, but it is made less scary by a relationship with God because we know He will never leave us.

In Deuteronomy 31:6, the Bible says, “Be strong and of good courage; do not fear nor be afraid of them, for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

Because of a relationship with God, we can be strong and courageous in this scary world. We will never have to wonder, like those boys from the story, “Where is God?”
