Falkville opens the season with two wins

The Falkville Blue Devils opened their season with victories over St. John Paul II and Whitesburg Christian.

Falkville jumped out to a 27-16 halftime lead and held on for a 53-48 win over St. John Paul II. Caden Burnet scored a team-high 10 points to lead the Blue Devils. Colton Hooper and Josh Bradford added nine points, while Isaiah Warnick and Avery Miller had eight points.

The Blue Devils scored 41 points in the first half of their 75-49 win over Whitesburg Christian. Isaiah Warnich scored a career-high 25 points and added eight rebounds to lead Falkville. Miller added a double-double, 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Camden Reid barely missed out on a double-double with 11 points and nine assists.

Brewer opened the season with a 60-51 win over West Point. The Patriots jumped out to a 20-7 first-quarter lead and held on for the nine-point victory. Hunter Lawrence led Brewer with 18 points, with 15 points in the second half. He also had eight rebounds.

Russell Mahan added 12 points and Tamarion Watkins had 10 to give the Patriots three double-digit scorers. Mac Shadden had a game-high 13 rebounds and five assists.

Danville opened their season with a 64-59 victory over Brewer last Friday. The Hawks, who led 29-23 at halftime, outscored the Patriots in a high-scoring third quarter 26-25 and then held on for the five-point victory.

Kohl Randolph had a double-double with game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead Danville. JoJo Whisenant added 17 points for the Hawks.

Lawrence also posted a double-double, 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Patriots. Watkins and Shadden each added 13 points.
