Great things are happening at the library

We have many new and exciting things happening!

First is the announcement by Mayor Garrison and our City Council that they have procured funding for a new library. My staff and I are extremely thankful for the city’s support.  We are looking forward to working to develop the library our growing community needs. We also appreciate the support from other city departments, our library board and, of course, our fantastic patrons.

Another piece of exciting news is that by January we will be offering Hoopla, a digital streaming service that will allow our patrons with library cards to borrow eBooks, audiobooks, movies, TV shows and more. This service can be accessed on a computer, tablet, phone and even some TVs through the Hoopla app.  There is no waiting. Titles can be streamed immediately or downloaded to be watched later.  Check-out times vary depending on format: Movies and TV episodes are checked out for three days, music albums are checked out for seven days, and audiobooks, comics and eBooks are checked out for 21 days.

We are also expanding our digital service Camellia Net to offer lower wait times for more popular books and audiobooks.  This service can continue to be accessed through the Libby app.

Funding for Hoopla and the Camellia Net expansion comes from a $15,000 Library Services and Technology Act Grant and the City of Hartselle’s 25 percent match – $3,750 – required for this grant.  We appreciate this opportunity to provide these digital services to our community and hope everyone will take the opportunity to explore Hoopla and Camellia Net.

To obtain a library card, please stop by the library with your proof of address. Our librarians will be happy to help you.

We have also expanded our hours and are now open until 7 p.m. Mondays. We hope this helps patrons who could not make it to the library by 5 p.m.

We are also offering additional programing Monday evenings. We have painting classes, game nights, craft nights, children’s activities and more. Please check the City of Hartselle Facebook or Huie Library League Facebook for all the details or stop by the library for a calendar of events.
