Danville falls to Clements 28-16

The Danville Hawks dropped a home game to Clements Friday by a score of 28-16.

The Hawks entered the game with momentum following this past week’s win over Elkmont that moved them to 2-2 in region play.

That momentum quickly dissolved when Clements scored the first two touchdowns of the game, taking a 16-0 lead.

Carson Crowe scored on a 5-yard run late in the first half to make the score 16-7 heading into halftime.

Crowe opened the second half with a 53-yard run for a touchdown to draw the Hawks within two, 16-14.

The Colts responded with two more rushing touchdowns, a 38-yarder, and a 44-yarder, to go up 28-14 midway through the fourth quarter.

The Hawks added a safety late in the fourth when they tackled a Clements runner in their endzone to make the final score 28-16.

Crowe finished with 201 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 19 attempts. He also had 10 tackles on defense.

Bo Huff had 76 yards rushing on 12 attempts, while Gage Tayler added 21 yards on six attempts. Taylor completed two passes for 77 yards.

Kam Hogan led the defense with 11 tackles and three sacks. Dylan McCluskey added eight tackles, while Huff had seven.

Danville (4-4, 2-3) will travel to Phil Campbell (5-3, 4-1) Friday, with a chance to make the playoffs.

A Hawks win will place them in a three-way tie for third place. AHSAA tiebreaker rules will come into play to determine third and fourth place in the region. A loss will eliminate the Hawks from the playoffs this postseason.
