Auxiliary honors veterans with downtown banners
Special to the Enquirer
For the month of November, the banners on the light poles in downtown Hartselle will be dedicated to honoring the community’s veterans through a program sponsored by the Hartselle chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary – with the purchase deadline set for Sunday.
According to the Auxiliary, the Salute to Veterans Banner Program will feature local veterans who were honorably discharged members of the Armed Forces. Each banner will feature an individual’s photo provided by the family or veteran, name and branch of service.
The goal is to sell up to 55 banners and have them printed, mounted and on display by Nov. 1. Each banner will cost $125. The deadline to apply for a banner is Aug. 1.
If the banners are still in good shape after being displayed this November and November 2022, the Auxiliary said they may be displayed again in November 2023, for an additional fee.
To qualify for the Salute to Veterans Banner Program, the veteran must:
—have been honorably discharged.
—provide proof of service, such as EDD-214 or other proof such as separation papers.
—have lived in Hartselle or have affiliation with Hartselle either before or after their military service; they do not have to have been born in Hartselle.
