Vets Like Us group plans Gold Star Families Appreciation dinner

Vets Like Us will be holding a Gold Star Families Appreciation Dinner Aug. 19.

This event will honor the families of U.S. service members who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country. Many Gold Star Family members will be in attendance, as well as special guests, and Vets Like Us would like to have community-wide support in honoring these Gold Star families and the heroes they lost.

The event will be Aug. 19 from 6-9 p.m. It will be held at the Cook Museum, in the Monarch Room, in Decatur.

Vets Like Us would like for the community to come together and be a part of supporting our Gold Star Families and our heroes who gave their lives for our country.

Falkville Activities

July 15 the Falkville Public Library hosted the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge for the summer reading program.

The Falkville Public Library Board met July 22 at 2 p.m. in the conference/office room. The board members are Jane Hill, Tina Rogers, treasurer Pam MacDonald, secretary Anna Henderson and president Rhona Summerford.

Jenny Asherbranner, library director, gave her report on summer reading, and some plans were made for a project for the annual Fall Festival, to be held Oct. 9. Members also discussed their hope that an Autumn Open House will be possible this year.

Their next meeting will be in September.

The Town of Falkville is proud to have Jacob Vest, from the Cullman area, as the town’s newest police officer.

The Falkville town employees are working on entertainment and vendors for the Fall Festival.

Summerford Nursing Home News

The residents and staff at Summerford Nursing Home enjoyed an ice cream party July 15, sponsored by the activities directors.

Anita Reid, of Corinth West Community, continues rehab from her open heart surgery at the Huntsville Hospital Heart Center. From there she will go to her daughter Christi Hunter’s home on Shady Lane, near Priceville.
