Early morning rescue: MSCO, Priceville PD aid Birmingham woman

Special to the Enquirer

Two local law enforcement agencies helped a missing loved one return home thanks to their actions July 3.

Around 3:30 a.m. July 3, after a call that had led to an arrest, Morgan County Deputy Jacob Raburn was traveling north on Interstate 65 en route to the Morgan County Jail when he encountered a car driving erratically at a low rate of speed. He radioed Deputy Jonathan Wynne to assist.

Wynne and Priceville Police Officer Don Carr were able to respond and initiate a traffic stop north of the Priceville exit.

They made contact with the driver and learned she was from the Birmingham area and was on her way to Midfield, near Birmingham.

Sgt. Shannon Ferguson arrived on scene and had Morgan County 911 contact Birmingham Police Department to see if a missing person had been reported. Birmingham PD confirmed the 93-year-old mother of a federal judge had been reported missing around 1 p.m. Friday.

Ferguson made contact with the now-relieved family, gave them direction to the Priceville Town Hall and informed them officers would stay with the woman until they arrived.

The deputies stayed with the 93-year-old woman and commented several times how “loving and caring” she was. She passed along several life lessons to the team, who hate that she had been lost but were grateful for the opportunity to interact with her and get her back to her family.
