Rescuers aid Priceville man after fall from cliff

Special to the Enquirer

Agencies in Morgan County worked together this past week to rescue an elderly man who had fallen off a cliff while mowing his lawn in Priceville the night before.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, around 9 a.m. June 15, the call came in to the Morgan County Rescue Squad for a high-angle rescue on Peach Orchard Road in Priceville. The man had fallen nearly 50 feet down a cliff, according to the MCSO.

Several rescue agencies responded to the scene, and rescuers were able to repel down the cliff to assess his injuries.

After putting him in a basket, they were able to use ropes and pulleys to hoist the man up the cliff to a medical staff, which further assessed his medical needs.

He was loaded on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.

The MCSO reported Morgan County Rescue Squad and all the mutual agencies worked very well together to give this accident a happy ending.

Agencies involved in this rescue were the Morgan County Rescue Squad, Priceville Volunteer Fire Department, Somerville Volunteer Fire Department, Decatur Fire and Rescue, Huntsville Cave Rescue, Lifeguard Ambulance, Air Evac Helicopter, Priceville Police Department, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Morgan County Central Dispatch.
