(L to R) New Morgan County head football coaches, Matt Plunkett (Brewer), Andro Williams (Danville), and Seth Ward (Falkville).

Three new head coaches to take the gridiron in the fall

There will be new head coaches on the sidelines this fall for Brewer, Danville, and Falkville. The new coaches were approved at the June 10 Morgan County Board of Education meeting.

Brewer Patriots

Matt Plunkett is the new head coach of the Brewer program, replacing Geoff Walters. He comes to Brewer after a two-year sting at Locust Fork. He has previous stops at Cullman and Gardendale. His eight-year record as a head coach is 51-39, with five trips to the playoffs.

“We are very excited for our program,” said Brewer principal Kevin Serrett. “We believe coach Plunkett will come in and continue to build on the foundation here.”

Danville Hawks

Andro Williams will take over at Danville following the resignation of Shannon McGregory. Williams has a 14-year record of 124-49, with previous stops at W.S. Neal (2017-20) and Linden (2007-16). He has been to the playoffs 11 times as a head coach, reaching the 1A finals with Linden in  2011 and the semifinals on four different occasions. While at Linden, his teams were 62-4 in region play and 25-10 in the playoffs.

“Williams comes to Danville with unbelievable credentials,” said Danville principal Marty Chambers. “Our program needs a shot in the arm, and we believe that coach Williams is the man to provide that.”

Falkville Blue Devils

Seth Ward will be the new head coach at Falkville, taking the place of Tyler Mitchell, who resigned two weeks ago to take a position at Decatur Middle School. Ward is the Blue Devils’ head baseball coach. He has been on the football staff since 2018.

All three coaches will face off with one another in the early part of the 2021 season. Brewer and Falkville are scheduled to play a jamboree, while Danville and Falkville will meet in the second week of the season.
