Melinda Faye Scholwinski 

Moulton 

A memorial visitation for Melinda Faye Scholwinski, 42, was held May 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.  

Mrs. Scholwinski died May 27 at her residence. She was born Sept. 3, 1978, in Polk County, Fla., to John Aldridge Jr. and Patricia Sowers Aldridge. She was employed by Sunshine Heaven as a certified nursing assistant prior to her passing.  

She was preceded in death by her father and a half-brother, Scotty Aldridge. 

Survivors include husband, Royce Scholwinski; mother, Patricia Sowers Aldridge; son, Jamie Scholwinski; stepson, Mathew Scholwinski; daughter, Makayla Scholwinski (Joseph); stepdaughter, Lindsey Scholwinski; sisters, Delores Nickelson and Kay Dodds; and step-grandchild, Willow Jo Scholwinski. 

Eva Holt Stinson 

Falkville 

A graveside service for Eva Holt Stinson, 70, of Falkville was held June 1 at 11 a.m. at Cook Cemetery with Bro. Earl Holt Officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  

Mrs. Stinson died May 28 at her residence. She was born Feb. 7, 1951, in Morgan County to Winnie Hafford Holt and Pollie Laverne Jones.  

Mrs. Stinson was proceeded in death by her parents and her husband, Jake Stinson. 

Survivors include three daughters, Stephanie Russell, Ruthie Griffin and Patti Murphree; one sister, Jessie Ann Russell; and four grandchildren, Tyler Griffin, Trey Griffin, Will Howse 3rd and Lizzie Howse.  

Pallbearers were Bobby Russell, Harley Russell, Rodney Russell, Tim Griffin, Mathew Russell and Nicholas Sudduth. Honorary pallbearer was Tyler Griffin. 

Jeff Mason 

Somerville 

Funeral service for Jeff Mason, 55, of Somerville was held June 1 at noon at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dustin Warren and Bro. James Reeves officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in New Center Cemetery.  

Mr. Mason died May 29 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born June 23, 1965, in Morgan County to Douglas Mason and Linda Reeves.  

Jeff Mason was preceded in death by his sister Lisa Murphy. 

Survivors include his parents, Douglas Mason and Linda Mason; brother, Tony Mason (Susan); and sister, Crystal Barbee (Charlie).  

Pallbearers were Noah Barbee, Dylan Barbee, Justin Mason, Billy Montgomery, Will Matson and Kevin Reeves. Honorary pallbearers were Garry Shaddon and Jeremy Wallace. 

Judy King Compton 

Huntsville 

Funeral service for Judy King Compton, 76, of Huntsville, was held June 2 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Vest officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was at Oak Ridge Cemetery.  

Mrs. Compton died May 29 at her residence. She was born Jan. 22, 1945, in Morgan County to Thomas Scott King and Mamie Agnes Hartselle.  

Mrs. Compton attended Grace River Community Church. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, friend and neighbor. She would help anyone in need.  

Mrs. Compton was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond E. Compton; and her sister, Elizabeth Ann King. 

Survivors include two sons, Robert “Bill” Compton (Jutta) and James Compton; two daughters, Kelly Compton Long (Mike Muston) and Carla Compton Cazalas (David Cazalas); one brother, Kermit King; three sisters, Linda “Carolyn” McAbee, Peggy Richards and Doris King.  

Pallbearers were Chris Long, Joshua Roper, Dylan Compton, Justin Compton, Scott King and Ben Cutcher. Honorary pallbearers were Wyman Gibson, Scott Teel, Kenneth King, Andrew Martin and Gary McAbee. 

Joe C. Mooneyham 

Blountsville
A graveside service for Joe C. Mooneyham, 76, of Blountsville was held June 2 at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Cemetery with Bro. Billy Vaughn and Bro Greg Bailey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  

Mr. Mooneyham passed May 29 at his residence. He was born July 8, 1944, in Morgan County to Dorrell B. Mooneyham and Lola Lee Goree Mooneyham.  

Mr. Mooneyham was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack Mooneyham. Survivors include his wife, Martha Mooneyham; two sons, Blake Mooneyham (Melissa) and Bradley Mooneyham (Charity); one daughter, Cynthia Vaughn (Billy); one brother, John Mooneyham; one sister, Willodyne Sandlin; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers were Andrew Vaughn, Mikell Mooneyham, Joseph Mooneyham, Joe Lucas Mooneyham, Jayden Mooneyham and Ben Skelton. Honorary pallbearers were Keeton Gilmer and Caleb Miles. 

Ora Marie Ray 

Hartselle 

A celebration of the beautiful life of Ora Marie Ray was held June 3 at 5 p.m. at the Hartselle First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bobby Ray Halbrooks, the Rev. Harold Thompson and the Rev. Mike Pope officiating. Burial was in the McKendree United Methodist Church Cemetery. Peck Funeral Home directed.  

Ora was born Feb. 22, 1938, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., to Arthur Reuben Munroe and Grace Peters Munroe and met her Lord and Savior face to face May 31. 

She was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, was saved and was a member of the Ft. Lauderdale Baptist Church. It was there where she met and married Charles W. Ray Sr., who was working in Ft. Lauderdale for the telephone company.  

In 1964 Charles and Ora moved to Hartselle and made it their home. They joined the Hartselle First United Methodist Church, and she joined the chancel choir in October 1964 and remained a faithful member until her health would no longer allow her to participate.  

She was a faithful member of the church, singing solos, teaching Sunday school, working with the youth and the children’s choir, serving as the chair of the worship committee, attending Sunday school and taking care of the bulletin board.  

Ora Loved music and played the piano by note and by ear. She could often be found in her living room playing and singing with her family. She was a prayer warrior and a great encourager who found great joy in sending cards for all occasions to those she cared so much for. 

 When their children were small, Ora was an assistant mail carrier for her father-in-law, Mr. Ernest Ray. From 1970-1982, she worked as a secretary for the law office of Groover, Blankenship and Thompson. Ora, an elegant, hard-working lady, enjoyed cooking, gardening and taking special care of her family. She adored her grandchildren and made each and every one feel special.  

Christmas at the Rays’ was a wonderful family time that will always be remembered. She always made it special for her family and made her wonderful red punch.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Reuben Munroe and Forest Munroe; a sister, Carol White, and her husband David; and a grandson, Justin Paul Halbrooks.  

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles W. Ray Sr.; a son, Charles “Chuck” Ray Jr. (Kathy); two daughters, Brenda Mitchum (Ed) and Lisa Halbrooks (Geoff); seven grandchildren, Beth Damron (Mark), Brandon McBay (Daniel), Michael Halbrooks (Leah), Laura Parrish (Scott), Ryan Halbrooks (Brittney), Anna Dove (Jonathan) and Patrick Ray (Megan); and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Her grandsons, Brandon McBay, Michael Halbrooks, Ryan Halbrooks, Patrick Ray, Mark Damron, Scott Parrish, and Jonathan Dove, served as pallbearers.  

In lieu of flowers, make memorial contributions to the choir fund or the Good Samaritan fund at the Hartselle First United Methodist Church. 

Doris Virginia Wood Hightower 

Moulton 

The celebration of life for Doris Virginia Wood Hightower, 93, was held June 4 at Roselawn Funeral Home at 1 p.m., with Bro. Wendell Bennett officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery.  

Mrs. Hightower died May 31 at NHC Healthcare in Moulton. She was born July 30, 1927, in Upshaw to James Garton Wood and Ethel Mae “Effie” Stephens Wood.  

Doris was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Joseph Junior Hightower, for 39 years.  

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Glenn Wood and Donald Wood, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.  

She is survived by her son, Danny Hightower (Polly) of Decatur, her daughter, Connie Benson (Ricky), and two grandchildren, Jennifer Benson and Nick Benson, all of Hartselle. 

A member of Flint Baptist Church since 1955, Doris faithfully served as a Sunday School, Training Union and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was a member of the church choir, served on many committees and was a member of the Adult V Sunday School class, whom she dearly loved.  

She treasured her friends at T.O.P.S., some of whom she traveled with on many bus trips. She especially liked the “mystery trips,” where they would try to guess their destinations. She also loved to sing and was a member of the Missions Quartet. 

The family would like to thank the staffs at Brookdale Cedar Springs of Decatur, Columbia Cottage in Hartselle, NHC Healthcare in Moulton and Hospice of North Alabama for the care that was extended to Doris over the past five years. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flint Baptist Church, 4119 Highway 31 S., Decatur, AL 35603; Hospice of North Alabama; or a charity of choice.

Teresa Kay Wilson Swader
Somerville
Teresa “Kay” Wilson Swader, 55, passed away June 3 at her residence. She was born May 16, 1966, in Morgan County to Norris Ray Wilson Jr., and Ann Charest Wilson Durand.  

Kay was a homemaker for her family, who she loved dearly. She and Mike would have been married for 38 years this December. She was a member of the Forest Hill Baptist Church. 

Kay was preceded in death by her father, Norris Ray Wilson; her father-in-law, Dorell Edward “Buddy” Swader; and stepfather, Mike Durand. 

Survivors include her husband, Mike Swader; son, Zachary Edward Swader; mother, Ann Wilson Durand; brother, Keith Wilson (Angie); mother-in-law, Barbara Swader; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. No services were scheduled at this time. 

Regina Denise Cole
Somerville
Mrs. Regina Denise Cole, 61, passed away June 3 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.   

She was born July 18, 1959, in Marshall County to Willie B. Brown and Audrey K. Kenney Brown. She was a member of the Deer Springs Baptist Church and was employed by the Chrysler Corporation as an assembly worker prior to her passing.  

She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her son, Shane Pullam (Mallory), and granddaughter, Victoria Pullam.

Andrew “Drew” Crow
Decatur
Funeral service for Andrew “Drew” Crow, 35, was held June 7 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brian Bridges officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. 

Mr. Crow passed away June 3 at UAB Hospital.   

Drew was born Jan. 16, 1986, in Morgan County to Kenneth Crow and Debra “Kay” Crow. He was employed by Exit Realty in Madison as a real estate agent prior to his passing. He lived and worked in Gulf Shores for 13 years before returning to his hometown to be near his family.  

Drew was a graduate of the Hartselle High School Class of 2004. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.  

Survivors include his parents, Ken and Kay Crow; brothers, Justin Crow (Michelle), Kenneth Crow and Blake Crow; and nieces, Wynn White (James), Kendra Crow and Jana Crow.  

Pallbearers were family and friends. 

Rita Hutchens Gilbert
Hartselle
A graveside funeral service and interment for Rita Hutchens Gilbert, 68, was held June 7 at 11 a.m. at Arkadelphia Cemetery with Bro. Greg Lane and Bro. Harce Swann officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. 

Ms. Gilbert passed away June 3 at her residence. She was born March 23, 1953, in Cullman County to William Thomas Hutchens and Barbara Jean Swann Hutchens. Ms. Gilbert was a member of the Decatur Christian Fellowship Church, and she participated in the Samaritan Purse Mission Group and The Bible Project.  

She was employed by the Alabama Department of Public Health as a registered nurse prior to her retirement. She dedicated her life in service to others as a nurse and caregiver.  

We were blessed and honored by the many devoted family members and close friends that cared for her and helped to honor her desire to spend her last days at home in the presence of family and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Rick Hutchens. 

Survivors include her lifetime companion, James T. Gilbert; son, William Bloodworth; daughters, Ciera Britan Wallace and Kennedi Gilbert; brother, Michael Hutchens; stepbrothers, Lonnie Burrell and Tim Burrell; stepsister, Connie Buchannon; and five grandchildren.  

Pallbearers were Matthew Lee, Taylor Wallace, Landon Grantland, Braden Bloodworth, Jeff Burmeister, Jose (Chi Chi) Moya, Kellen Bloodworth and Len Fox. 

Billy Van Clark 

Priceville 

Funeral service for Billy Van Clark, 81, was held June 7 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Earl Holt officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Herring Cemetery. 

Mr. Clark died June 4 at his residence.  

He was born March 29, 1940, in Morgan County, in Priceville, to the farming family of Herbert Lacey Clark and Cora Verna Wilson Clark. He remained there until 1969, when he began driving for Osborn Truck Lines and later for Kenneth Road Produce of Palatka, Florida.  

He came back to farming in 1987 and was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Clark.  

The family would like to thank Dr. Schmidt and staff, Dr. Figh, Dr. Walker, Home Health Care Kindred Hospice and his breakfast and farm friends, who have been a great help.  

Survivors include his wife, Liz Adcock Clark; sons, Tony Clark (Amanda) and Lee Clark (Christie); daughter, Jessica Terry (Brian); brothers, Leslie Clark (June) and Kenneth Clark; sister, Monte Ellis; and six grandchildren, Chelsea Clark, Caitlyn Clark, Lacey Grace Clark, Grayson Clark, Jacob Skinner and Nick Lott.

Mildred “Boots” Grissom Goodwin 

Hartselle 

Funeral service for Mildred “Boots” Grissom Goodwin, 91, of Hartselle was held June 7 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Terry Nappier officiating. Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery. Peck Funeral Home directed.   

Mrs. Goodwin was born May 10, 1930, in Birmingham to William Grissom and Laura Ferguson Grissom. She passed away peacefully at her home June 5, surrounded by her family. She was a Baptist.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carlos E. Goodwin.   

Mildred was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family and friends.  

Survivors include her son, Charlie Goodwin; daughter, Cheryl Hodges (Glenn); grandchildren, Jason Goodwin (Dominique), Lauren Goodwin, Leigh Ann Loudon (Chad), and David Yarbrough; and nine great-grandchildren.  

Pallbearers were family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Francis “Frank” Joseph Chatham 

Hartselle
Graveside service and interment for Francis “Frank” Joseph Chatham, 63, of Hartselle will be June 9 at Decatur City Cemetery with Father C. Merrill officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. No visitation is scheduled.   

Mr. Chatham was born Dec. 17, 1957, in Jackson, Miss., to Griffin Berchmans Chatham and Kathleen McLaughlin Chatham. He passed away June 4 at his residence. 

Frank Chatham earned his BIE and MIE degrees from Auburn University. He worked for Ampex, the Harrison School of Pharmacy and the office of technology at Auburn University. He also developed the website BeBad.US. He performed as a standup comedian under the name Tense and Nervous. He was a devout Catholic.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathy Chatham and Elizabeth “Betty” Hammond; and two brothers, Bert Chatham and Mark Chatham. 

Survivors include two sisters, Angela Chatham Norris (James) of Decatur and Imelda Chatham Fisher of Hartselle; nephew, Joshua Wayne Fisher of Hartselle (son of Imelda Chatham Fisher); niece, Catherine Mullalond (daughter of Betty and Don Hammond); brother-In-law, Don Hammond; and sister-In-law, Polly Chatham. 

William Wallace (Bill) Clough Jr.
Somerville

A memorial remembrance service for William Wallace (Bill) Clough Jr., 72, will be held June 12 at 2 p.m. at Blue Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Richie officiating. A time of visitation will be held after the service.  At a future date, he will be interred at VA Alabama National Cemetery near Montevallo.  

Bill was born in Anniston Aug. 29, 1948, to William Wallace Clough Sr. and Katherine Duncan Clough. He passed away June 5 at his Somerville residence.  

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Kelso Clough; stepdaughter, Linda Kelso Kemp (John); sister, Rebecca Clough Harpole; brother, Phillip Michael Clough (Patsy); and niece and nephews. 

After graduation from Albertville High School, Bill joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in heavy combat in Vietnam in 1967-1968. Returning from military service, he worked at the Dunlop Tire Corporation and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama A&M University. From 1985-2003 he was the Madison County Veterans Service officer, then he transferred to
Montgomery as the State of Alabama Veterans’ Claims representative, retiring in 2006. During his tenure as Veterans’ Service officer, he served on many military organizations. 

Bill was a dedicated Christian and an avid traveler. Navajo Mission work in New Mexico was one of Bill’s pet projects, as was being a children’s Sunday School teacher.  He was re-baptized in Israel’s Jordan River.
