Special to the Enquirer Attendees at this past year’s conference learn about church safety from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. This year’s event will be held in Falkville June 22 from 6-8 p.m.

Conference targets church safety

A free community-wide event focused on helping churches prepare for the worst possible situations is slated for June 22 in Falkville.

The second annual Church Safety Conference, hosted by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Fairview Church of God, located at 4154 Huckaby Bridge Road. The vendor area will open at 5 p.m.

The goal, according to the MCSO, is to meet churches where they are and help them get to where they’re going when it comes to church security.

“There is no one plan that is right for every church, but many of the tools and resources in any plan are the same. We focus on highlighting them,” spokesman Mike Swafford explained.

Speakers include Sheriff Puckett, Noell Bishop of Bishop 30 Solutions and more.

The event this past year, held at Somerville Baptist Church, was well attended, Swafford said. More than 800 were in attendance.
