Tell good news

By Todd Barrier

In Bible class this week, a simple question was asked: What is “the good news

A few different answers were given: Jesus; that Jesus died for us; that Jesus saved us. These are all pretty good answers.

The next question was, how can we explain that to those who don’t know the gospel? Is there a story from the Bible that shows how this can benefit someone who wants to know about Jesus but is skeptical?

The leper was brought up. Jesus healed the leper and cared about him when no one else wanted to be around him.

This answer was the key. There was no condemnation; there was no judgement; the person would just tell the interested one about Jesus.

That’s the first step in spreading the good news.

The good news is about Jesus, so the first thing we should be talking about is our awesome Jesus.

Oftentimes we bring up things that won’t lead someone to Jesus but will push them away. There is a time and place to talk about and explain those things, but an introduction to Jesus should be about Jesus!

When Phillip converted the Ethiopian Eunuch, the first thing the Bible says he did when explaining the scriptures was to preach Jesus (Acts 8:35). So, as we go and tell the good news, let’s actually tell the good news – Jesus!
