David M. Boyer 

Hartselle 

Graveside funeral service and interment for David M. Boyer, 86, was held May 11 at 4 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Cemetery with Bro. Walter Blackman officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  

Mr. Boyer died May 8 at his residence. He was born April 29, 1935, in Morgan County to Robert Edgar Boyer and Mary Ellen Tapscott Boyer.  

He was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company as a construction millwright prior to his retirement. He was a member and chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee of East Highland Baptist Church for several years and always enjoyed doing things for the church and helping people who were in need.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.  

Survivors include his wife, Clara Howard Boyer, Hartselle; sons, David Keith Boyer, Virginia Beach, Va., and Kevin Boyer, Marquette Heights, Ill.; brother, Brent Boyer, Priceville; four grandchildren; and three great–grandchildren.  

Pallbearers were David Keith Boyer, Kevin A. Boyer, Austin Boyer, Trevor Boyer, Dillon Boyer and Jimmy Boyer. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of East Highland Baptist Church. 

Michael Eugene Summers
Decatur

May 9, Michael Eugene Summers, loving husband, father of two sons and stepfather to four children, transitioned to heaven from the comfort of his home surrounded by family at the age of 74. 

Michael was born in Columbus, Ga., to Herman Eugene and Connie Ruth as the second son of six children. At the age of 18, he joined the Navy, completing his basic training at West Point, where he was selected as the commander’s aid.  

He was later stationed in Hawaii and assigned to the USS Walker.  

He earned his associate’s degree in computer information systems from Troy University and retired from that field of work at Martin Army Hospital, Fort Benning, Georgia, in 2011.  

Michael married Barbara Adams in April 2000, and they moved to Priceville in July 2014. He was an avid reader and handyman who loved to sing, travel and make people laugh. 

Michael is survived by his wife Barbara; his two sons, Josh Letter and Vincent Summers; his four stepchildren, Zac and Austin Slay, Lindsay (and Chaz) Darnell and Tattie Grace (and Walker) Ferebee; and nine beloved grandchildren, as well as one sister, three brothers and several nieces and nephews. 

The celebration of Mike’s life was held May 13 at Epic Church, 607 14th St. SE, in Decatur, with a viewing at 11 a.m. and the service beginning at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the WoundedWarriorProject.org. 

Larry “Joe” Powell 

Left Hand, WV 

Larry “Joe” Powell, 73, of Left Hand, West Virginia, and formerly of Alabama and Florida, passed away May 7 at Cleveland Clinic.  

Born January 7, 1948 in Hartselle, he was a son of the late Floyd James Albert and Lattie Carrol Powell. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Rachel Fleming. 

Larry, or Joe, as he was sometimes known, was a retired United States Air Force tech sergeant, a faithful member of Newton Baptist Church and an avid fisherman. 

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Brenda Powell; children, Kenneth Powell (Tracy) of Freeport, Fla., Justin Powell of Nashville, Tenn., and Larrisa Powell (Adam) of Left Hand; sister, Sarah Smith, of Texas; and 10 grandchildren. 

A celebration of his life was held at 1 p.m. May 15 at Newton Baptist Church, 790 Hollywood Road, Newton, West Virginia, officiated by Pastor Darius Walker.

Sherman Eugene “Dagwood” Steel 

Falkville 

Funeral service for Sherman Eugene “Dagwood” Steel, 77, was held May 14 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Harper officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. 
Mr. Steel died May 10 at his residence. He was born Nov. 30, 1943, in Morgan County to Earnest Steel and Susie Hunter Steel.
He was employed as a truck driver for Morgan County Districts 3 and 4 prior to his retirement. He was a loving, caring father and friend to many.
Preceding him in death were his son, Tommy Gene Steel, and several brothers and sisters. 

Survivors include his son, John Wayne Steel (Laura); brother, Homer “Peanut” Steel; grandchildren, Sarah Beth Reese (Chris) and Taylor Steel; and great–grandchild, Isabella Reese. 

William Emmett Parham
Moulton
William Emmett Parham, 85, passed away May 10 at his residence.  

He was born Jan. 1, 1936, in Morgan County to Joseph Parham and Maybelle Sapp Parham. He was a truck driver for Ryder Truck Lines prior to his retirement. 

Emmett felt like he was the most blessed man with all his children and grandchildren in his life. He had a way with words, and his smile lit up a room. He was a kind, compassionate man who was very respected and loved dearly.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Faye Parham; brother, Joseph Parham Jr.; sisters Josephine Parham, Lorene Cottingham and Shirley Lewis; and his parents. 

Survivors include three daughters, Susan Rebecca Parham, Judy Faye Brothers (Hal) and Betty Jo Knox (Lawrence); brother, Robert Parham; sister, Ruby Osborne; 10 grandchildren; 24 great–grandchildren; and 14 great–great–grandchildren.
A private memorial service was held by his family. 

Brenda Ann Akers 

Hartselle 

Funeral service for Brenda Akers, 71, was held May 14 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Josh Sellers officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in the Hartselle City Cemetery.  

Ms. Akers was employed in customer service for corporate billing prior to her retirement and was a lifetime homemaker. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and a member of the Church of Christ. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great–grandmother.  

Preceding her in death were her daughter, Amanda Akers Freeman, two granddaughters, Toby Crow and Lizzy Crow; and a niece, April Hornbuckle.  

Survivors include her son, Jason Akers (Catherine); seven grandchildren, Monica K. and Maggie Ann Akers, Brayden Freeman, Jacob and Connor Mallon and Tucker Freeman and Jasper Akers; one great–grandchild, Oliver Akers; two brothers, Frank Glenn Hornbuckle Jr. (Rosemary) and Joe Clarence Hornbuckle. 

Darren Story, Brady Stewart, Eddy Livingston, Glenn Hornbuckle, Brad Freeman and Michael Murphey served as pallbearers.  

Jane Ann Frutiger Fields 

Hartselle
Funeral service for Jane Ann Frutiger Fields, 73, was held May 13 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Bro. Clayton Speed officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery. 

Mrs. Fields died May 11 at her residence. She was born March 21, 1948, in Jefferson County to James C. Frutiger and Virginia Lee Scott Frutiger. 

Jane Ann was a 1966 Cullman High School graduate and the 1965 Homecoming Queen. She taught school for 28 years and loved F.E. Burleson Elementary School, all of her students, her fellow staff and her principals.  

She retired from teaching in 1998 and spent her retirement reading, cooking and mostly spending time with and supporting her grandchildren, who she loved dearly.  

Her favorite team was the Alabama Crimson Tide, and she loved listening to Eli Gold.  

She was inducted into the Hartselle Educator Hall of Fame in 2019. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle and served on the Library Committee, helped with VBS and enjoyed the Senior Adult Ministry. 

Survivors include her husband, Larry D. Fields, Hartselle; daughters, Mandee Fields Boster (Tony), Hartselle, and Krisee Fields Terry (Jared), Hartselle; brothers, John Frutiger (Gail), Cullman, and Tommy Frutiger, Tuscaloosa; and grandchildren, Jackson Terry (Bella), Eli Terry, Emilee Boster, Brody Boster and Cooper Boster.  

Pallbearers were Jared Terry, Tony Boster, Greg Mayo, Jackson Terry, David Wood and Jonathan Frutiger.  

Donations in her memory may be made to The First Baptist Church Library Fund, F.E. Burleson Elementary School and the Hospice of the Valley. 

Mary Frazier
Huntsville
Funeral service for Mary Frazier, 63, was held May 15 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Rayburn officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Mt Tabor Cemetery. 
Mrs. Frazier died May 11 at her residence. She was born March 1, 1958, in Wayne County, Michigan, to J.D. Fish and Frances Marie Ross Fish. She was retired from working as a certified nursing assistant. 

She loved helping people and loved her children, grandchildren and great–grandchildren with all of her heart. She was of the Baptist faith.  

Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Linda Kay Tripp. 

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Wayne Frazier; daughter, Pamela Sue Frazier; son, Joey Gerald Martin; brothers, Bill Fish, Dennis Fish and Guy Fish; sister, Ella Turner; four grandchildren; and two great–grandchildren.  

Pallbearers were Jesse Lemaster, Jamie Ward, Devon Martin, Jeff Echols, Guy Fish and Troy Frazier. 

Nick Eddy

Funeral service for Nick Eddy, 29, was held May 13 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Justin Morrow officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Morgan City – Rescue Cemetery.
Mr. Eddy died May 10 at his residence. He was born May 21, 1991, in New York, to James Arlo Eddy Jr. and Tammy Evelyn Pasciuta. He was employed as a mechanic and was a loving father to his children. 

Preceding him in death were his grandfather, James Arlo Eddy Sr., and grandmother, Joan Dear. 

Survivors include his father, James Arlo Eddy Jr.; mother, Tammy Evelyn Pasciuta; son, Rylan James Eisner; daughter, Jessa Marie Grace Eddy; brothers, Michael Losasso and Jacque Martinez; sisters, Misty Lea Eddy and Autumn Eddy; aunt, Donna Eddy; and cousins, Kimberly Morrow (Justin) and Mallory Eddy.  

Pallbearers were Autumn Eddy, K.J. Stinson, Mason Johnson, Byron Hayes, Trevor Johnson and James Eddy Jr. 

Bobby Y. Moore 

Somerville
Bobby Y. Moore died May 12 at River City Center. He was born Dec. 17, 1941, in Morgan County to Freeman Yearwood Moore and Pearlie Lee (Hornbuckle) Moore.  

He was a self-employed truck driver, retired, who loved his family.  

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Billy Wayne Moore, Carl Whisenant and Burlon Dillard Moore; and sisters, Hilda Lenox, Nancy Johnston, Hattie Lee McComb and Maggie Lou Moore. 

Survivors include his son, Mike Moore, Decatur; daughter, Debbie Goodner, Valhermoso Springs; brother, Jerry Moore; sisters, Linda Faye Elliot, Iris Fowler and Peggy Ann Thompson; grandchildren, Raven Thrasher (Ben), Chase Moore (Shelley) and Lindsey St. John (Wesley); and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Moore and Raylea Moore. 

Iris Anice Goodwin
Hartselle
Funeral service for Iris Anice Goodwin, 82, was held May 17 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Assembly with Pastor George Sawyer officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. 

Ms. Goodwin died May 13 at her residence. She was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Walker County to Curtis Goodwin and Azalee Sandlin Goodwin.  

She was employed by Huntsville Hospital as a certified coding specialist prior to her retirement.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lorraine Lee. 

Survivors include her daughter, Madeline Suzanne Weed; sons, Charles Brenton Weed (Stephanie) and Eric J. Weed; six grandchildren, Tyler, Stacey, Jessica, Sydney and Emma Weed and Melanie Douglas; two great-grandchildren, Alex Douglas and Jase Douglas; and a host of nieces and nephews.  

Pallbearers were Britt Parson, Tyler Weed, David Gilbert, Broderick Whittier, Brian McQueen and Christopher Cody. 

Tom Ricks
Hartselle
Funeral service for Tom Ricks, 75, was held May 16 at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wendell White and Bro. Lynn Harvel officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery. 

Mr. Ricks died May 13 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1945, in Morgan County to Charlie Edward Ricks and Jimmie Hattie Henley Ricks. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Ricks retired from 3M with 33 years of service and also retired from Weister Security. He was a member of Straight Gospel Missionary Baptist Church for 20 years. Tom was a locksmith and enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved woodworking. Mr. Ricks served our country with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion and a proud supporter of all veterans.  

Tom was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. 

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ricks, wife of 40 years, Hartselle; son, James Norris (Ivy), Madison; two daughters, Sabrina Johnson (Clyde), Hartselle, and Vicky McCollum (Shane), Moulton; three siblings, brother Paul Ricks (Sandra) and sisters Louise and Shirley; and nine grandchildren.  

Pallbearers were Dalton Boyd, Isaac Griswold, Robert Ricks, Cody Walker, Paul Galloway, Brian Monk, Gary Walker and Cliff Fowler.
