Extension hosts Q&A with registered dietitian

Special to the Enquirer

The Morgan County Extension Office is offering a face-to-face meeting with registered dietitian Megan Lester May 18 at 6:30 p.m., for an event called Ask an RD.

The Q&A will be held at the Morgan County Extension office, 3120 Highway 36 W.

Lester is a professed strong believer in the power of health education and said she finds enjoyment in the opportunity to communicate evidence-based research to people in local communities.

Lester, who also serves as an Urban Regional Extension Agent for human nutrition, diet and health for Lawrence, Madison, Morgan, and Limestone counties, earned her undergraduate degree in nutrition and hospitality management from the University of Alabama and attended graduate school at Western Carolina University, while completing her dietetic internship in Asheville, N.C..  She obtained licensure status in 2013 and focused on critical care nutrition in acute hospital settings until joining the Extension in 2020.

As stated by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, “All registered dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are registered dietitians.” This Ask an RD session is, according to the Extension, a unique opportunity for the community to be able to have conversations about nutritional concerns with a registered dietitian who provides this service to the community free of charge through the Alabama Cooperative Extension.

People should RSVP for the May 18 session by calling the Morgan County Extension Office at 256-773-2549 or by registering onlineFor more information email Lester at mkl0046@auburn.edu

The Ask an RD session will follow COVID-19 guidelines regarding face masks and social distancing.
