Brenda Joan Knox Spindler passed away at Decatur Morgan Hospital April 3 at the age of 70. She is survived by her loving husband, Danny Jacobs; son, Jonathon Skinner; granddaughter, Lainey Skinner; sister, Janice; and many more extended family and friends.

Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

A graveside memorial service was held April 16 at 3 p.m. at McKendree Cemetery.

Jerry Wayne Johnson

Decatur

Funeral service for Jerry Wayne Johnson, 73, was held April 17 at noon at Cave Spring Baptist Church with Bro. Ron Manly and Bro. Brandon Lewis officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in New Friendship Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson died April 11 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Aug. 24, 1947, in Morgan County to Fuller Ray Johnson and Vonda Freeman Johnson.

He was a member and Sunday School teacher at Cave Spring Baptist Church. He was employed by 3M Company prior to his retirement. He was a United States Army veteran.

His father preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Delores Blankenship Johnson; sons, Jason Johnson (Tracy) and Chad Johnson (Candice); mother, Vonda Freeman Johnson; brother, Danny Johnson; sister, Gerri Bowling; and grandchildren, Caden, Makinley and Madison Johnson.

Pallbearers were Mike Vest, Carl Blackwood, Don Fairbanks, Jerry Collier, Guy Shipp and Tony Hillard. Honorary pallbearers were Derrick Turner, Don Slaton and Barry Curbow.

Bob J. Dickinson

Somerville

A graveside funeral service and interment for Bob J. Dickinson, 78, was held April 16 at 1 p.m. at Boston Cemetery in Brillant, with Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Dickinson died April 14 at Falkville Health Care Center. He was born March 5, 1943, in Brillant to Odus Dickinson and Ruby Bostick Dickinson.

He was formerly employed by UPS as a driver for 25 years prior to retiring.

He was a member of the Hartselle Church of Christ and was an avid fisherman, quail hunter and Alabama fan. He also was founder of the Winston County Sports Hall of Fame.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Gene and Bill Dickinson; and sister, Ann Dickinson.

Survivors include his wife, Connie P. Dickinson; son, Mike Dickinson (Malisa); daughter, Christi Day (William); and grandchildren, Dax Dickinson, Dane Dickinson, Chandler Day and Sydney Day.

Jerry Wayne Woodall

Long Beach, California

Jerry Wayne Woodall, 62, of Long Beach, California, departed this life Feb. 12 after a battle with lung cancer. He was born Feb. 26, 1958, to Carl Wayne and Dorothy F. Parker Woodall of Hartselle. His parents preceded him in death.

Jerry was a free spirit, always happy, and would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it worse than he did.

He was a graduate of Morgan County High School, where he played in the band. He was employed with the Hartselle Police Department for four years prior to moving to California.

He was survived by one aunt, Sherry Parker Burchell, of Hartselle, and several cousins. He was blessed to have friends who helped him through the last weeks of his battle. The family would like to say “thank you” to those friends, Scott Spizer and Dixie Dohrmann, and to Peck Funeral Home and Geoff Halbrooks for assisting the family.

A private homecoming has been held by his family.

Joe Fagan

Hartselle

Funeral service for Joe Fagan was held April 20 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens in Decatur.

Mr. Fagan, 89, passed away April 16 at his residence in Hartselle. He was born in Lawrence County May 6, 1931, to parents Andrew Fagan and Sadie Rae Garner.

He was in the Army and fought in the Korean War. He retired from Kroger after 37 years of service as head clerk. He loved fishing and loved Alabama football.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew David Fagan and Sadie Garner Fagan; brothers, Jasper “Bud” Fagan (Berthalee Fagan), Leroy David Fagan (Willie Mae Fagan) and Gary Fagan (Liz Fagan); and sisters, Dorothy Terry (J.W. Terry) and Elaine Terry (Wade Terry).

Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Jessie Louise Fagan; son, David Walter Fagan of Tennessee; daughters, JoRene Thomas of Hartselle and Rebecca DeMike of Hartselle; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother Cody Landis, who officiated.

Dorothy Elizabeth Oden Murphy

Decatur

A graveside funeral service and interment for Dorothy Elizabeth Oden Murphy, 94, will be held April 21 at 1 p.m. at Valhermoso Springs Cemetery with Dr. Michael Mason officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Murphy died April 17 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Morgan County to Harvey Anderson Oden and Martha Elizabeth Gibson Oden. She was an LPN and worked for Dr. Leon Cochran until her retirement. She was a member of the Cotaco United Methodist Church. She loved to paint with canvas, using coal and oils. She loved dogs, cats and Twinkies. She enjoyed reading, working outside in her garden and flowers. She also loved to arrange and rearrange furniture.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Loyd Carl Murphy; a son, Thomas Carl Murphy; a great granddaughter, Carman Johnson; a great grandson, Logan Mark Hufnagle; and her parents.

The family wishes to extend “special thanks” to Amanda Millette for her loving care for our Mom.

Survivors include one son, Ronny Carl Murphy (Connie), Cullman; daughters, Patty Childers (James), Somerville, and Jennifer Looney, (Tony) Decatur; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lee Reaviel, Jimmy Johnson, Kevin Murphy, Shawn Daffron, Brad Murphy, Doug Oldacre, Jeff Andrews, Evan Cleghorn, Justin Cobb and Kolton Bramlett. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Michael Mason Ministries.

Sharon Garmon Harper

Hartselle

Funeral service for Sharon Garmon Harper, 73, of Hartselle will be April 21 at 3 p.m. at the Hartselle First United Methodist Church with Bro. Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be at Hartselle City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Harper passed away April 18. She was born Oct. 10, 1947, in Georgia to John R. Garmon and Mary Virginia Smith Garmon (Carroll).

Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors Include her husband, Keith W. Harper; four sons, Chris K. Harper (Carol) of Guntersville, Kevin Harper of Hartselle, Scott Harper (Peg) of Mobile and Derek Harper (Chrissy) of Hartselle; and eight grandchildren, Mandy Anderson, Sennia Harper, Adeline Harper, Michael Harper, Cole Harper, Claire Harper, Cate Harper and Cal Harper.

Pallbearers were Mrs. Harper’s sons and grandsons.
